I think the lack of Ninja Cat is very telling.

Whatever. My cat Trilby could have beaten them all, paws down. Except that he's a pacifist.

The bracket winner is a competitor I'd never even heard of until reading this. This almost NEVER happens with the NCAAs.

I can't quite grasp this: Maru's youtube videos have amassed 59.390.043 views by now. This is almost the population of Italy.
I wonder if his owner can make a living of the youtube partner ad earnings by now? All just because his cat likes to jump in and out of boxes...
I hope he gets the best cat food money can buy!

Please note, Internetters, you'll only have one vote for each matchup, so make it count!

Somebody doesn't understand how the internet works.

I can't believe THAT cat won... and defeating both Keyboard Cat AND Ceiling Cat along the way? I'm suspicious. Has it been tested to steroids? Or catnip? Or cheezburgers?

Before I hovered over any of the links, I said "Maru" to myself.

There's no stopping that cat. One day he will learn to talk and then we will be as dust and half-mice. We will serve all day in the box-production factories!

And this was the same site that originated and promoted A Day Without Cats on the Internet!!! (posted here by some dweeb) They did well replacing them with BUNNIES! But that was only one day.

I was hoping they'd reprise their 9/9/09 event on 10/10/10, but I suspect the LOLCAT Lobby has them in their back pocket now.

Somewhere, Ceiling Cat is judging them harshly.

I knew who would win even before I clicked the links.

I knew who would win because there's totally a spoiler in the winner link! However, he is deserving, due to his breadth of material. Keyboard cat was merely a one-hit wonder. =(^^)=

Of course Maru won. He will soon be declared a Living National Treasure.

His owner has actually published an entire book about Maru, based on hir blog. Which is all about Maru.

I actually dig Maru for the same reason I dig "Simon's Cat" (which I'm surprised they didn't include here) -- they make no attempts to anthromorphize the cats at all, and instead just give us pure, unadulterated CatBrain. They don't try to come up with cute Lolcat captions while they're jumping in and out of boxes or come up with any justification for why they want to sit on your books -- they don't need any explanation other than, "...this is...a cat. This is what cats do."
