Surely this.......will warm your black, cynical, withered MeFi hearts ya misanthropes! Labrador Retriever/Dolphin love! (SLYT)
I was waiting for old Orcinus Orca to appear and snap them both up with a single bite.

My heart is no longer black and withered - I watched the video. Pretty damn adorable.

with this youtube video's overweening narration, i much prefer this video of admittedly land-locked but swimmingly winning sloths (who can also swim). although, of course, the Mark Mothersbaugh soudtrack could seem twee to some.

If a dog and a dolphin can get along, why can't our mom and his dad? (@10:50)

Whenever I see something like this, I'm always left wondering what each of the species perceives the other to be: Does the dog see the dolphin as another dog who has too little hair and is mystifyingly fast in the water? Does the dolphin see the dog as a sort of stupid podmate who forgot how to use its flipper?
Or do they recognize that they are both different, and just don't care?
Either way, it's full of cuteness.

My Lab thinks I'M a dolphin. I don't bother to correct her because, well, my boyfriend won't feed me sardines when I do a trick...

I love this video. I love that the dog goes to all that trouble to go out and be with his pal, and then when the dolphin spots the boat leaving, he's like "later man." And the dog is like, "I'd go with you but..." And the Dolphin is like, "whatever, see you tomorrow man." And the dog is like, "Oh boy, I can't wait until tomorrow." And then the dolphin leaves.

Ugh, James Taylor? And man, that guy's incessant mugging got old after about a second and a half.
Yes, the dolphin-dog part was pretty great.

Cute indeed. Love inter-species friendships! But good grief - can you imagine the horror if the dolphin had...you know...attacked the dog?
OTOH, wouldn't it have been even cooler if the dolphin came onto land to play with the dog? NOW you've got a news-worthy story, my friend.

That dolphin really doesn't love the dog. You can tell in the dorsal fluke. It's just a rebound relationship.

Dolphin love doesn't really smolder, either, in my experience. It stings a bit at first, but once you relax, that fades away and it starts to feel amazing. Communication is the key. YMMV.
