It's 1962, and for a few glorious months the world stands still and looks (down, down, down) to Atlantis for the World's Fair. Perhaps you also missed the 1924 El Dorado World's Fair? And of course reserve your tickets today for the 2040 Moon World's Fair. (Experiments in Typography on the Web, via Waxy Links.)

Oh, Typekit, you make things so fancy, and without flash*!

*NOTE: some Ajax required

Swanky designs, too band there wasn't more material behind it. It seems they could put together a pretty fun bit of kit and make it more than 3 pages of distinctly different designs. It reminds me of some fun design bits from The Happy Mutant Handbook, which I've thought of transferring to a digital format for over about 15 years now (crikey!), but I feel like a slacker who couldn't do the design justice, and now I feel like a slacker.

All the same, thanks!

The Atlantis page was brilliant.

The Atlantis page looks really nice, but totally pings my Pedant-O-Meter -- "Leagues are a measure of distance, not depth!!! 20,000 leagues down goes through the center of Earth and out past geosynchronous orbit on the other side!!!"

I wasn't around for the 1924 El Dorado, and missed the 1962 Atlantis fair also. Where can I send my check for a reservation for Moon 2040?

The Atlantis one is the only piece that's anything more than a pretty poster. Not that pretty posters are a bad thing, I guess. That said, Atlantis 1962 was fun!

The 1924 Eldorado was one hell of a car, I tell you what.

These are super fun, moreso because I was just watching old World's Fair films to get myself hyped up for next week's super-crazy Maker Faire.

Apparently Atlanteans are quite fond of the Seattle Space Needle.

Which was the pinnacle of the 1962 worlds fair in Seattle and had somewhat of a water theme; including a lovely lady water-skiing behind Roy Rogers and Silver!

Did you know Atlantis shares a telephone exchange with Joplin Missouri?

Chimaera: You and Kelsey Grammar have the same pet peeve.

Actually, it's Springfield. Frank Chimero, the designer, lives in my old loft, and is one of the most talented young designers around.

Its nice to see some design-(somewhat-)for fun here again. Used to be what attracted me here in the first place, lo many years ago.
