Open House New York

Open House New York is one week away. Next weekend in New York City, there will be hundreds of talks, tours, and open houses in places that are normally not so accessible to the public. See the listings here. The good ones book fast.

The good ones do book fast. Very, very fast.

Oh, man, that's almost enough to make me wish I still lived in NY.

Although I sadly note that the place I most would want to go into-- the building I'd book a special trip back just to see inside-- isn't on the list.

I highly recommend going to Wave Hill, even if it isn't a part of the Open House NY thing. The place is really amazing, and you'd never imagine you're in NYC.

My immediate reaction was oh, so we actually are selling it and moving away.

Well, if Threeway Handshake is going to recommend Wave Hill, I'll chime in to mention that it is free on Saturdays before noon and all day on Tuesday and there is an always free hourly shuttle that runs from the 242nd St stop of the 1 line to Wave Hill (and another one that runs from the Riverdale Metro North station, but I've never taken that).

It is indeed lovely.

So much nerd love for these things. If only I weren't thousands of kms from NYC, I'd be there.

Oh man. Jealous. Can there be an Open House San Francisco? Pretty please?

Their website is catering to the highly coveted 755x580 screen resolution demographic.

So come on, who's got a rundown of the best places to visit? The list is pretty big and I don't know the city well enough to pick out the best.

I was visiting Toronto last year when they were doing Open Doors Toronto and it was neat to walk around some gorgeous art deco bank vaults and the back stage of performing arts centers. Gives a different perspective on interacting with the public faces of these venues.

This is so cool! I can't go this year, but I'm excited for next year! Thanks!

I'm mildly aghast that I'd never heard of this! Thanks for the tip!
