I just want to say thanks to the Burning Man people who have enabled me to post this message direct from the Playa. This is the future! Satellite uplink wireless Internet access by day, party by night. Now... does anyone know the SMTP address? I can browse the Web from Burning man but can't send out e-mail....

Just got back from Burning Man today. Stayed over in Sparks/Reno last night due to a six car pileup between Gerlach and Nixon. Jammed up traffic for over 4 hours...

We had our first LiveJournal camp this year. It was relaxing not having Internet access for a whole week, since I had less to yell at.

One of the more amusing times there was when Cocky Bastard very nicely paid us a visit, but nobody else in camp knew who he was.

Today has been stressful. We are paying a huge penalty for an extra day on a vehicle because when we tried returning it, they freaked out on the excessive playa dust. We called them ahead of time and asked them whether we should wash it first because it was dirty. They said "bring it in"... but they had never seen anything like a playaized car. There's apparently a difference between dirty and playa dirty. Still, it's better to rent the car an extra day than to pay exhorbinant rates for them to have the car detailed.

So, what was your excuse for not dropping by our camp? You missed out on free playa coladas...

Were you in the Livejournal Camp, insomnia? We didn't drop by because we didn't want to talk about the internet. :-)

We were in the Vogon Poetry Camp at 3:30 & Soldier and we represented in full style. It was so nice hanging out with so many amazing people in my camp (including a bunch of notable Metafilterians and others you may know), as well as in Black Rock City as a whole, without saying hardly one goddamned thing about the Internet.

What an amazing week... I'll say more later in my weblog, I'm sure. But for now, I have to get the dust off of everything...

And I do mean everything.
