The Barack Whisperer. Robert Draper's in-depth look at Robert Gibbs, senior advisor and press secretary to President Obama, and his sometimes controversial relationship to the media.

Journalists from little-known organizations such as Salem Radio, the Washington Examiner, and the Christian Broadcasting Network

Hah, CBN is many things, little known, it is not. Salem Radio may be little known in and of itself, but Bill Bennet, Hugh Hewett, Cal Thomas, Michael Gallagher, et al. are not, which makes this quite misleading. The Washington Examiner apparently lands on enough lawns that a hundred thousand people know about it, even if they don't read it.

More wierdness:

Gibbs was present at the creation, the spring of 2004, when Barack Obama was a senatorial aspirant with a campaign staff of nine and a memoir that maybe nine people had read.

I guess this is hyperbole. The book came out in paperback, so it seems to have been reasonably sucessful when first published.

Obama does reserve a certain respect for opinion writers such as Tom Friedman and David Brooks of The New York Times, Jerry Seib of The Wall Street Journal, E. J. Dionne of The Washington Post, and Joe Klein of Time.

That explains an awful lot. Does anyone else on this planet with two brain cells to rub together actually respect Tom Friedman?

I do like this turn of words: "political communications today are a frantic, Hieronymus Bosch–like dystopia"

Its like Ari Fleischer never existed.

I was just thinking that Gibbs is nowhere near as good as Ari Fleischer.

Ever since the Gulf War, watching a White House press secretary do their thing has always reminded me of Tariq Aziz - who today was sentenced to death by hanging.

What does "Barack Whisperer" mean? Is the President a horse?

... or a unicorn?

Its like Ari Fleischer never existed.

Not to mention Scott "The Thing That's Put Me in a Tough Spot" McClellan and Dana "Wasn't That Like the Bay of Pigs Thing?" Perino.

If Barack Obama is a unicorn, does that mean he should be listed on that non-monogamy map?

Actually, wait, he's on there, under religious polygamy. because he's a secret muslim. and they're all polygamists

Gibbs clevery fluffed one pundit at each major newspaper. Also notice they are bestselling authors who hit it big with the MBA set and middle America. Freedman is the head of that list. So he gets the oh your such a thinker call out from Gibbs.

This Robert Gibbs? The one who is for Jobs, Health Care, and Progressive Values? Fuck him. And fuck Obama for hiring that sleazy piece of shit.

Gibbs's casual contempt for journalists seems to be one of those unpleasant facts of life the White House media have come to expect.

Like his casual contempt for the public, his own party, and democracy? Yeah, we've come to expect it, Gibbsy. But you're doing a heck of a job.
