Except for the Aliens one, these are all pretty bad. Are they the winning ones?

It's a good job I always open an Aliens link first when given a choice, it is easily the best as flatluigi says. It's a shame more AICN types aren't familiar with the George Formby film where he wins the TT race on the Isle of Man, that might be light cycled pretty well.

Yeah, I wanted to like these, but couldn't. Also, I can't believe AICN still exists.

classic movies like Hard Target?

I thought the one for Modern Times was really good. "Modern Times Legacy." Heh.

They took Aliens, put some nice glowy Tron inspired textures on things, looks great. But then the same guy also chooses to replace the soundtrack and dubs in some music from Inception? WTF? Needs more Wendy Carlos. (Daft Punk need not apply. I love them, but the new soundtrack sounds pretty limp.)

Hard Target was John Woo's first American movie and the first Hollywood film made by a Chinese director. So without Hard Target, we wouldn't have Face/Off. And did you see JCVD crash his motorcycle into that car and then shoot it with his pistol causing that huge fireball? Fucking classic.

Hell the fuck yes it is.

I think Harry at AICN is about to "Godzilla" everyone again. He declared that Tron has always been his secret religion in the announcement for this contest.

Hell the fuck yes it is.

Hey, I wanted John Woo's coming to America to work as much as anyone, but it just wasn't meant to be. Hard Target is maybe the third best Van Damme flick, and not even Woo's best American film (which I would name as Face/Off). The scene used in the above clip is the one memorable part (although Wilford Brimley is always a welcome sight).

You're just talking crazy talk. That whole film is awesome.

The best part even of the Aliens one is the YouTube title of the video.

Y'all are a bunch of sadface poop-noggers. Looking at the date of the contest announcement, these were all done in less than a week - that's not a lot of time to do effects work even if it's your day job!

I mean, the Lebowski bit was pretty doofy-looking in the foreground - but having all the bowlers in the background rolling discs down the lanes, with appropriate sound effects, really redeemed it. And the trailer for Modern Times: Legacy had me laughing out loud.

I was left utterly cold by the Aliens clip. Go figure.

Is Lore Sjoberg around? 'Cause he did something like this eleven years ago. NEVER FORGET

And we didn't have your Adobe Motion Effects and your Final Flash iMovie programs back then. We drew blue lines on still photos in Photoshop and we called it a day! Then we drank, and drank hard.

The winning Aliens clip was the first entry received, so it was done in less than 3 days.

The CGI really ties the room together, does it not?

Then we drank, and drank hard.

Don't worry, we still do that part the conventional way.

A late entry just posted to the winners' page: Tron vs The Volcano

Tron vs The Volcano

It had potential, but without any Tron Abe Vigoda, I was disappointed from the realization of amazing wonder that Tron Abe Vigoda could have been, but wasn't.

Tron Abe Vigoda would be some process that was set in the job queue, but never ran, due to some cron job mix-up. Been there for years, waiting for his turn in line.

My google-fu fails me right now, but wasn't there some guy about 10 years back who found a computer program waiting to run on some university mainframe for 20 years, but never had enough priority to run, or something like that?

That's Tron Abe Vigoda.

While it was loading, I was really psyched that the Clockwork Orange one was only seven seconds, because the last time someone linked a seven second video was the Haitian weatherman clip. Unfortunately for this, even seven seconds was too much.

I didn't care for these but it did make me briefly imagine Metropolis with a score by Daft Punk. Maybe someday...
