Automata are amazing devices! Just the other day I was watching a childhood favorite of mine, Faerie Tale Theatre, on Netflix. Tim Burton directed "Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp" (with nice performances by Leonard Nimoy and James Earl Jones). There's a scene in the sultan's palace showcasing the character's collection of "interesting objects." In the last MeFi thread on the subject, luvcraft linked to another video worth watching, with Ricky Jay demonstrating an 18th century acrobat. Great stuff!

I wonder if the "Spooner" referred to in the title of "Drifting Apart Spooner" is Paul Spooner of the Cabaret Mechanical Museum? The style looks a lot like his.
