"The Star Wars Christmas Special" by Gamervision finally rights the wrong that was "The Star Wars Holiday Special" (which is available on YouTube, should you want to go there: Part 1, Part 2, & Part 3).

I have nothing going on, I think I'll watch this.

Nice use of the Vince Guaraldi trio.

So anyway, yeah, that was funny in parts, but really fails to surpass the original due to the lack of the "dear god what in the hell am I watching, am I on drugs? Because Carrie Fisher sure is oh god baby wookie! the singing! argh!" factor.

Really wanted to like this, and for the most part did, but the dubbing could've used more work. The "Christmas Story" reference was nice, though.

Couldn't make it past the 1 minute mark. Did it ever get good?

Did it ever get good?

Jefferson Starship shows up with glowing instruments, if that's your thing.

Obligatory accompaniment to pashdown's link -- they even riff the commercials!

In the spirit of the original, The Sci Fi Janitors (Bob and Carl) celebrate Wookiee Life Day.

I've always wondered why the MST3K guys have never tackled this one. Perhaps a stone left best unturned...

RiffTrax, featuring a number of the old MST3K crew did. Enjoy.

This is great, but...

I know this is one of the many ways George Lucas and I have parted ways over the year, but "The Star Wars Christmas Special" is the one I really want.

And now, as traditionally shown after the Star Wars Christmas Special in our house: William Shatner sings Rocketman.

I don't know... I know Lucas always tried to distance himself from the Holiday Special, claiming it was all a mistake, but now that I've seen the prequels, I'm not so sure. A part of me thinks that the Holiday Special is exactly what he intended.

mrnutty: "Did it ever get good?"

When Episode 1 was released, it got marginally better by comparison.

We would be remiss if we did not include a link to xkcd's Star Wars Holiday Special cartoon in these comments.

DON'T GO THERE.

By the way, in 1999 I held a bad movie holiday party that proceeded exactly according the xkcd's little inset dramatic recreation. It was... grim. And not in a good way. Lives were ruined that night.

Oh wow, that's weird...the same thing happened with me and some friends. One of them had it on DVD and insisted we get ripped up and watch it to make fun of it and that worked for maybe ten minutes but the thing just saps the life out of you. It's not so bad it's good. It's not even so bad it's really, really bad. It's so bad it's incalculably depressing.

When I was 9 years old, I was watching this show, all the way up to about part 14, when my parents turned off the TV, and I had to go to sleep. I wondered all these years how it turned out, and I finally just now saw the ending. 30 some years later. Talk about closure.
