FRACT is an atmospheric adventure game set in an abstract forgotten world of analog sounds, samples and glitches by Richard E Flanagan. (Mac & Windows downloads, vimeo trailer, RockPaperShotgun post)

Damn, i'm also getting that, egypt... what settings are you guys using where it works for you?

I made it to what looked like the final puzzle area before having to stop and close my eyes for a while from nausea. I don't normally get motion sickness from games; I wonder why this one caused it.

1280 x 800 windowed at "fantastic" quality here.

Okay, on fullscreen that didn't happen.

I'm in the music sequencer part (which is awesome, btw)

What am i supposed to do?

nm, i figured it out.

Note to game designers: Walking slowly from place to place is not a fun gameplay element.

ugh, this puzzle is broken. Oh well. It's a beta. Good game, though.

An old deer and young deer are standing on a hill above a meadow of beautiful doe. The young, uppity buck says "Let's run down and fuck one of them!"

The older, wizened one says "Let's walk down and fuck'em all."

I heard that from a guy who taught how to make maze on my Atari 800 about 20 years ago.

Really lovely and intriguing, once I got past the first room. Frustrating that there's no save, though. Definitely something to keep an eye on.

Downloading now. Anything explicitly influenced by Rez sounds good to me and the start of the vimeo trailer looked like both of them (vimeo works so poorly for me for some reason that I didn't get past the first few seconds).

After I went to see the stupid new Tron the other day, I tracked down a copy of the old Tron at a video store to watch it for the first time in years and I was surprised at how closely parts of Rez imitate its beautiful old-style flat shaded look. Compare the Area 3 boss with the part of the final battle that starts around 3:20 (warning: second video contains spoilers for the end of old Tron, in Russian).

It really is a gorgeous game. My only criticism of it is all of the tedious walking around. There's no reason I shouldn't be able to fly around, instead. The puzzles would pretty much be the same.

I wrote the programmer an email last night and he agreed about the walking around. Apparently he had very ambitious plans for the final puzzle that he couldn't quite get to work. I can't wait to see what the next iteration is, though.

Is it just me or is the mac version unusably slow? Even at 640x480 with the lowest graphics settings I'm still only getting two or three frames per second, and I'm not exactly running an old creaky machine here...

Cool, now I just have to figure out how to condense my system specs into 140 characters.

(no but seriously though, thanks juv3nal)

Well -- I will say that he's one of the most courteous and responsive developers I've ever talked to.

This sort of thing makes me really glad I'm a website developer and not a real coder: I only have to make sure it works in a half dozen web browsers; he has to make sure it works with a half zillion different graphics drivers and devices.
