Rosie O'Donnell would have made it, except:
Too Generous
The talk-show host, actress, and production company owner might have made our list except for one thing: She's given away too much to charity, including her own 4 All Kids foundation.

Man, that stOopId Rosie O'Donnell, giving away money to people less fortunate than herself! Thank god Fortune can put her in her place...

Shame on Rosie!! Doesn't she know that being listed in a pretentious crap-mag like Fortune is MUCH more important than actually sharing the overwhelming wealth that she has. Tsk Tsk.

Actually I meant to link to that sub-story on their site but they have some weird link-killing mechanism.

Maybe its just me being 23, but I look at people like Glaser and Dell as "old" guys. I'd prefer a list of under-30s.

wow, i'm impressed that 9 of the top 10 are still held by dot commers, despite the crash. and 2 of them are ebay's founders.

You're impressed that they assigned themselves dirt-cheap fouders' stock, floated at the height of the bubble, then cashed in after the six-month lock-in?

founders. must not post while on phone. gah.

*shrug* sure. i'm also impressed that master p is on the list. care to make some sort of sassy analysis of that?

Yeah. Master P sucks.

Are these the real richest, or are there inherited-wealth types that keep themselves off the list? Anyone know how inaccurate these lists are?

Number 18.
Wealth: $270.0 million
Company: Computer Associates International, Inc.
Title: President/CEO
Sanjay Kumar

A native of Sri Lanka, Kumar is paying the tuition of 25,000 students to study at regional universities in India this year.

That's pretty cool. What would you do with $270 million?

Must admit, that's pretty sassy...

I take a certain pleasure as a former Amazon employee from a few years ago in knowing that while Michael Dell's obscene wealth at least comes from having at least built something real, Jeff "Laughing Boy" Bezos' stock has been falling- literally and figuratively- of late. Not as much consolation when considering that the stock he's already cashed ensures he'll be a multi-multi-millionaire for the rest of his life no matter what happens to Amazon, though....

Totally tangential, but I'm also watching a rerun of last night's "Back to School with Mo" Daily Show as I type, and that segment with the Library of Congress [porn] archivist sitting in his basement surrounded by porn, or gittin' it on with Chessie "Man's best friend's best friend" Moore was just about the most disturbing thing I've seen in a looong time. Really creepy; jayzus...

Hm... I guess I'd build the world's largest archive of porn!

By "real", I meant that Dell started hand-building computers in his teens, and built that company up himself by selling good computers at reasonable prices until they become a computing giant. Bezos wasn't the "brains" behind Amazon at all, just the giggling front man and business dude who got the initial funding. The bulk of his wealth is still castle-in-the-clouds value on stocks on a company yet to turn even one dime of profit and could be out of business by the end of the 4th quarter, due partly to Bezos' foolish insistence (or so I believe) of trying to turn Amazon from a successful book, music, and video e-tailer (those divisions are generally profitable) into another Wal-Mart, and basically blew too much of the company's money on acquiring other companies or expanding into areas they had no business being in, like lawn furniture and power tools. In other words, I believe Bezos is at best a 2nd rate businessman who got freakishly lucky...

heh. I bet that I've gotten laid more than at least half of these people, if you don't count paying for it. Ok, Tiger, Jordan, Carey and Cruise probably have me beat. But groupies are just a step below hookers. And I don't shill Nike all over my body, make movies and commercials with cartoons, bolster my own image by impersonating someone with more talent, or associate myself in any way with the Church of Scientology.

Money isn't everything, right? Maybe it buys happiness, but it doesn't seem to do much for self-respect.

I happen to have the UK list of richest people under 30 here for those who are interested.. money translated into Dollars.

1. Darren McKee (car sales) $157.5m
2= Ajaz Ahmed (Internet) $75m
2= Alistair Gosling (Media) $75m
2= Tahir Moshan (Computers) $75m
2= Lucas White (Inheritance) $75m
6= Konrad Feldman (Software) $60m
6= Damian Reeves (Software) $60m
6= Adam Twiss (Software) $60m

David Beckham and Posh Spice come joint 9th with $45m.

Most controversial entry is Benjamin Cohen at 31st with $21m.. this guy tends to get slated in the press and called a liar on many an occassion.. so it may not be $21m at all.

Youngest entry is singer Charlotte Church, 15, with $18m.

To be one of the 100 richest under-30s in the UK, you need $7.5m just to start.

So you're saying that because you were so busy trying to get laid, you passed up your chance to be a multi-millionaire? Hey, an orgasm is very fleeting, but dividends keep on coming.

While women are indeed under represented, what is amazing is that nearly a third of the 40 under 40 are from various "minority groups." Many were born out side of USA too.
