I tried playing this for a little while, but honestly I have a hard time seeing the point.

And the characters are all one-dimensional.

Wrong game. You want the zero-dimensional version.

Why?
Because it is one of the great games!
Anyone who remembers this from when it first came out, knows why?
It is the same reason that Atari's Adventure is still one of the great RPG games.

btw, this game is available as an iphone app -
and it is great on the iphone

The sounds made me nostalgic. Wish there was an option to hear it as it sounded out of my PC speaker.

This is the game I bought my first sound card for. "Schutzstaffel!"

So. Totally. Worth it.

Can we get a SPOILER tag for Horace Rumpole's comment? I'm trying to beat the game without the use of a map.

This would be easier if I could rotate the arena by 90 degrees and crouch in a sub-pixel.

Of course, since you see it from the side, this isn't a true 1-D first person shooter. If it was, you'd only see a single pixel.

This crosses a line for me. It's merely derivative, and not at all substantial.

I am going to write a letter to Roger Ebert explaining to him just exactly what is wrong with 1D video games.

It's kind of tangential, but this is reminding me of the time someone wrote a rendering plugin for Quake that displayed everything as an A-Ha video.

The really sick part is that I didn't even think about that when I wrote it. That sort of thing jus happens to me sometimes. It's like the time I was talking about Mortyr, a semi-controversial first-person shooter that involved traveling back in time to keep the Nazis from winning World War II, and I mentioned that there'd been a furor about it.

I actually had to ask people to explain to me why they were groaning. =/
