Food for Thinkers is a week-long, distributed, online conversation looking at food writing from as wide and unusual a variety of perspectives as possible. Between January 18 and January 23, 2011, more than 40 food and non-food writers will respond to a question posed by GOOD's newly-launched Food hub: What does—or could, or even should—it mean to write about food today?

Like I don't read enough about food already. I think reading about food is my way of dealing with the sublimated desire to eat donuts. And birthday cake. Every day.

Er, this just feels like promo for said newly-launched food hub. Sorry.

The story on Tibet (full article here) interests me greatly. First, they drink their tea with butter and salt? I guess when it is cold you need the extra fuel. Anyway, now that the Tibet government is exiled in India and the historical link of sweet tea houses to modernity and the outside world sweet tea with milk and sugar appears to have become a political statement.

What does—or could, or even should—it mean to write about food today?

It should mean more Anthony Bourdain taking Alice Waters to task.

Sorry, isn't this mistitled and should be "Thought for foodies" instead the other way round?

"It should mean more Anthony Bourdain taking Alice Waters to task."

Yeah that's right. Bourdain wouldn't even have to submit an article. He could just taunt her with a jpeg of that smug look that's permanently plastered on his face.

There's a post up that helpfully provides links to all of the pieces themselves, sorted into something resembling categories.
