Mnemosyne (It's autumn in the country I remember...)

A tango-influenced setting of a hundred year-old poem by Trumbull Stickney, "Mnemosyne" is the title track of our new CD, recorded by Ljova and the Kontraband (music by Ljova, sung by Inna). Mnemosyne is the Greek goddess of memory, and this is a song of nostalgy and of memories that turn color like autumn leaves yearning for rebirth with a vibrant song in the spring.... We've long been looking forward to sharing this song with you all.

If I Had Wings (in Yiddish)

If I only had wings, I would fly to you... If I had chains, I would pull you to me... Just open up my heart, you'll see that it's dark and heavy with my love to you... Late last night, we wanted to capture the intimacy and quiet sparkle of this old song ... Hope it brings you a moment of peace and loveliness...

an overwhelmingly ambient texture, pierced with many elements of various density - scraped percussion, Latin and bluegrass gestures, strings, somber guitar notes and swirling electronics. Very soundtrack, very visual, particuarly for fans of Gustavo Santaolalla.

a fun new lounge track dedicated to our friend Uli in NYC - with warm greetings from fuzzy Budapest. Enjoy!

Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child

I've always loved this spiritual, and I loved recording it as well. It was a balmy evening in New York, and as I was singing, I felt as much in the center of the world as far far away....

Bagel on the Malecon

A very New York-bred outlook at old-time Cuban music, recorded entirely with .. violas! This was my attempt to create asymmetrical but memorable melodies, clear textures crammed with material, and experiment with multitrack viola as a concept, an ensemble. The sound of the classic Cuban bands had all that - except the violas, that is. This track appears on my newly released CD, the VJOLA: WORLD ON FOUR STRINGS
