You bet your ass there will be profanity on stage

Of course, you've seen Get Your War On the comic strip, but have you seen Get Your War On, the Musical? It's playing in Austin, apparently to rave reviews and sold out shows. They even have photos of a performance.
This seems like a good place to sing the praises of Rude Mechanicals' unexpectedly great theatrical production of Greil Marcus's Lipstick Traces.

Can I mention for the 3rd or 4th time that the 2nd-from-the-top strip on this page is one of my all time faves?
Deep.

That musical looks simply irritating... All those characters with jaded sneers on their faces... Why would I be interested in that, no matter how much I agree with the message?
Must protest art always be so heavyhanded?

I can't imagine how Get Your War On would translate to the stage, but I'd love to see it.

God, if you exist, please convince the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre to do a performance of this so I can see it.
Thank you.

if you want protest art to also be propaganda, yes, pretty much it needs to be that heavy handed.
also note that GYWO isn't exactly trying for "art" but for ridicule by way of silliness and sarcasm.

The Rude Mechanicals do fantastic work, and this production is no different. However, I don't want to disappoint, but it's not actually a musical. The dialogue is lifted directly from the comic, and there's a small usage of music (not original), but I wouldn't call it a musical.
It's not heavyhanded either. I've never laughed so hard at a subject that was so angering to me, especially anything under the moniker of "protest art." Definitely worth seeing.

Quite a splash page. Listening to Bush bums me out. There, I said it.

Ah I'm so envious. Please someone convince the Rude Mech people to record a performance so I can see it.

They are easily distinguished because one always has recourse to the f-word as a last measure. And as a first measure.
