History Wired is the new interactive web project from the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, that lets you browse the various collections by topic, by timeline, or both. It's based on the SmartMoney "Map of the Market".

You've got to go try this before it gets "MeFi'ed". It'll take a little while to load, but the interface is very cool. I'm going to spend a while digging through all of this site.

FWIW, a recent interview with Martin Wattenberg, (creator of HistoryWired and Map of the Market) discusses the viz technique behind these projects.
