"Jesus and Sports go together like peanut butter and jelly." But remember, once you apply elephant dung it becomes sacreligious. (via Dr. Boom)

I don't get this "doublepost" thing. I'm sure that some people are seeing this link for the first time, and it's not a big deal regardless -- why the tattletaling?

(Especially since you didn't seem to have anything else to contribute -- would you have posted a comment if your "double-post" alert hadn't gone off?)

I was just saying, is all. Two reasons:

a. Sometimes Matt kills double posts. It keeps front-page clutter to a minimum. That's how things work around here.
b. If the link stays, others will be aware that there's already a thread chock full of snarky goodness.

Personally, I don't get this "bitching about pointing out doubleposts" thing.

twee: I think there's a game some MeFi'ers play where they earn points for being the first to point out a double-post. Score 1 for jpoulos!

I wasn't criticizing you specifically -- it's just that doublepost-spotting seems to be almost a game on MeFi. I've seen quite a few accompanied by "Why don't you check the archives before you post?" (with snarkier language, of course.) Occasionally it seems to degenerate into "Ha ha, look at what the idiot new guy did!"

msacheson -- we had the exact same thought at the exact same moment. Nice!

I also don't like what the double-post craze does to me -- when I first saw the link, my first thought was "Double-post! If I mention it I'll look like a MeFi oldtimer! Awesome!" My second thought was "Why make someone feel stupid unnecessarily? It's a nice link. I don't really mind."

Not to sounds like a snarky old-timer, but this sort of discussion belongs in MetaTalk because it hijacks the thread.

I understand your point, twee, but you did, in fact, criticize me specifically in your second post. No biggee, though.

Yes, it can be sort of a game for some of us, but there is a value, I think, in establishing and "enforcing" some rules around here. You don't have to be a jerk about it (and I don't think I was), but guidelines are important.

Anyway, this isn't the place for this discussion. Let's take it to MetaTalk.

I think the Hockey figurine where Jesus is about to throw a check is pretty amusing myself...

Number 33, the Savior, 2 minutes for cross checking

(sorry, couldn't help it)

Wow...I post for the first time in weeks, go get some Pho and look what happened!
Sorry...and tj, you rule!

hmmm I wonder if Jesus were in the NHL, who he'd play for (probably the Red Wings... he's old enough)

Do other magical all-powerful invisible mythological superbeings care enough about local sports to take sides? I'm betting on whoever Wotan, Apollo and Ra are for! :D

I'm going with Kali...possibly Odin with the Huginn and Munnin tag-team combo. And a side order of Jubilex the Faceless Lord.

And you can't go wrong with a good, pissed-off Nyarlathotep vs. Shub Niggurath Cage Match.

uh oh. Got dorky again.

Thru bein cool

tj, nice hockey references. I think he'd play for the Rangers. They like to over-pay for old people, and they'll need a miracle to be better next year.

I don't get it, where's the dung? This certainly does not deserve an NEA grant.

thank you msacheson, but being from Detroit, I have a bit of a bias.
Those of us who grew up watching Douggie Weight (I know his godmother) grow up, I have a bit of a bias about who jesus would play for.

Wouldn't Jesus play on God's Own Hockey Team, the Leafs?

...sorry.
