MeFi post: Finally, A Bread Fit For The Kwisatz Haderach
Anyone have a good recipe for Kwisatz Rugelach?
The key thing is you can't use butter; instead you need to substitute in a condensed oil made from the strained liquid of the milk of an Arrakeen goat.
That is to say, the shortening of the whey.

Paul Wells: The making of a prime minister
Both Trudeau and Mulcair argued that something is lost when the national government throws off too many of its longstanding functions. Both sought to rehabilitate a belief that taxes are often worth paying, because government can be an agent for positive change. But Mulcair wanted to win the top job by soothing the skittish next voter who had never supported his... [more]

I was absolutely laughing my ass off this weekend when I saw a Harper ad where he claimed, "My opponents only want to talk about me and not the issues."
I mean how many fucking times in the last six months have I heard 'JUST NOT READY' and 'NICE HAIR THOUGH' and suddenly we shouldn't be talking about the candidates?
Like I needed more proof that Harper was a hypocritical bastard.

MeFi post: a button to stop all the chaos that doesn't work
This talk by Davey Wreden about "Playing Stories" (recommended for after you watch/play The Beginner's Guide) was also illuminating.
His introspection on how making games and releasing them into the world changed him (or maybe revealed who he was all along) has been really really interesting. I don't think it's an aspect of game development that gets talked about much, although it's not an unfamiliar topic when it comes to more traditional art. The number of... [more]

MeFi post: Gourmet plating
Also, as a person who loves and is interested in food, if I happen to have $100-300 disposable income and I want to prioritize it on enjoying food, I'm not sure why I should come in for a rougher drubbing than the many, many people I know who are happy to spend that on shoes, clothes, or makeup. You really can't tell everything about a person's wealth by their interest in high-end dining and their ability to do it now and then on a rare basis. Food and travel are, for me, worth a little extra... [more]

Re the MeTa queue: I'm a bit mystified as to why this MeTa from NoraReed didn't make it through. I asked about it at the time and was told that there were framing problems, but this seems to me like a pretty sane and thoughtful discussion prompt about sexism issues.
