MeFi post: And together, THEY FIGHT CRIME!
Sadly, I have the box set, right on the shelf beside my box set of Buck Rogers.

From Twitter (guest-starring MeFi's own mightygodking):

MGK: Seriously, Buck Rogers is a great concept, which is why they tweaked it for Captain America when they brought him back

‏MisteralexWiebe: That's just silly! There's no link between Steve Rogers, Bucky, and OH MY GOD

Bonus OMG: opening... [more]

Some good tips and images here. You can reheat and whisk again if you mess it up.

MeFi post: The Mathematics of Murder: Should a Robot Sacrifice Your Life to Save 2
No, you stupid robot. Choose to crash us together as gently as possible. Human meatbots are self-healing, and all three parties arguably would rather be injured than sacrifice one or the other entirely.

Look, I know I already diagrammed this to you in game theory. If you plunge single party A off the cliff to save two party group B, they'll suffer this emotion called guilt and be tormented by it for the rest of their lives, which is maybe worse than just killing all... [more]

"Having watched every episode of both shows...no. Community has a lot of turd episodes, the creator even wrote in references to an entire season as a "gas leak" year. BBT is consistently the better comedy."

Man, they let you choose your channels in your ward? I mean, I just assume that anyone writing that sentence is heavily medicated. (And I don't even like Community all that much.) BBT is the equivalent to having your... [more]

Guys, this isn't over. We don't have to roll over and play dead just because "the man" wants to deny us our dreams. Because we're not just a website that likes the same show - we're a family. And when a family sticks together and works together, that family can do anything.

That's why I'm forming a Save the Save Greendale Committee Committee, and if you want to join me there's a place at the table for you. Mathowie will be asked to sign up as the... [more]

MeFi post: OctopEscape
In a market in Naples I once had occasion to consult my Langenscheidt and finally articulate:

"Il suo polpo sta scappando"

to a stallkeeper.

Dunno whether that made sense, but either way she unceremoniously walked the few meters down the street, scooped up the polpo and plopped it back into its tank. Sometimes I kinda feel a little bit bad about it, but Naples is a tough place for an octopus.

MetaTalk post: That's really small of you!
Once again the joy-killing archons of this website snatch the longed-for golden prize from the outstretched hands of their famished populace.

These fun-hating despots have cast down the very sun of a new day, a day that had been filled with hope and wonder, a day of infinite possibility and potential.

And just as Phaethon, who longed to grasp the reins of Helios' chariot, was utterly destroyed by Zeus' unjust thunderbolt, so too have the... [more]

Ask MeFi post: Masculine bisexual men in fiction and popular culture?
For a while I thought I was the only person who read them, but in Julian Barnes' detective novels that he wrote under a pseudonym, the main character is both very masculine PI (nose and door breaking etc) and also very bisexual.

Also, Dean Moriarty/Neal Cassady in On The Road/Real life.

The terrible cancer analogy is a 4chan meme.

I agree that "USian" is a disagreeable term - everyone knows that the plain-speaking citizens of that blessed nation prefer a term that more adequately connotes their determination, their directness and simple honesty: "USer". That's why we hear so many of our US-based cousins proudly proclaim: "I'm a User and I'll NEVER give up!"

Related to the Hairy Arm is the old school method of dealing with the client insisting you make the logo bigger. This was recounted to me by our agency's president, a veteran of the tail end of the Mad Men era.

2. Back at the agency, we made three new variations on the ad. But instead of making the logo bigger, on each variation we'd actually make the... [more]

I'm actually knitting him a blanket right now from scraps of yarn, for the express purpose of giving him something to have sex with. We hope this will satisfy his urges well enough so that he stops prying open closet doors to get at our sweaters.
