How do I move to Canada?

I am a US citizen. I would like to move to Canada, where my Canadian girlfriend lives and works. My company here in the US is willing to let me telecommute. What are the legalities involved here?

This is my Code Gun. There are $Armory.getGunCount() like it, but this one is mine.

Code Hero is a game designed to teach programming. It uses the first-person shooter idiom, where you are armed with a Code Gun that shoots JavaScript. It reminded me a little of hacking the Gibson.

Stop motion inside stop motion

500 people holding more than 1,500 (!!!) developed pictures all around Israel, creating a smooth music video within their hands. (Best viewed not on full screen). Stop motion inside stop motion.

Besides the standard answers (births, graduations, weddings, etc.), can you pinpoint a happiest single moment of your life? What was it?

Tell me what you wish men understood about being a woman.

I'm a guy who's interested in learning about female experiences—particularly the kind to which men might be oblivious—particularly those which will help me understand feminist ideas and perspectives. I prefer personal stories and informal musing to the dense academic stuff.

Turning £500 into £5000

I've been challenged to turn £500 GBP into £5000 (or more) within the next six months. I know NOTHING about investing, stock markets or investment markets. Any good resources to start this challenge with? Ideas on best strategies for this sort of speedy growth? Any good books / online communities / articles to read? Do you think it's even possible?

Best overlooked comments of 2010

Last year, Greg Nog made up a list of tragically overlooked comments from 2009. It was more monkeys than a barrel full of fun, so let's do it again!

How does social pressure affect sticktoitiveness?

I want to learn as much as possible about the psychology of purposely forming new habits (like exercising each day) or sticking to something which requires daily work (like learning a language). I am especially interested in the role that social pressure of peers can play in a person's success (Alcoholics Anonymous, study partners, even the recent findings that a person's weight is related to the weight of those close to them may be examples). Books, articles, jumping off points -- academic or otherwise -- would be very much appreciated!

Please Hope Me Not Fail at Life

I've been really enjoying "lifehack"-type AskMe posts lately - questions about how to change one's own habits to be better at day-to-day life situations and challenges (How do I become one of those people who makes everyone they talk to feel great? from Chrysalis is a good new one). What are some of your favorites?

Bring to our attention that which we may have glossed over.

The flip-side of "Most favorited posts of the year": Last year, I typed up a little list of comments I particularly liked that I thought were overlooked. It was fun! I just went through my favorites from 2009, and did so again. I would like this to be a thread where you share comments that you liked, but which you feel may have gotten little notice from others.

Writers on writing

In How to Write a Great Novel authors such as Edwidge Danticat, Hilary Mantel, Orhan Pamuk, Junot Díaz and Margaret Atwood speak about their writing process. If you want your thoughts on writing in a longer format, you could do a lot worse than The New York Times' Writers on Writing series, which features short essays by, for example, Kurt Vonnegut, Saul Bellow, Louise Erdrich and Annie Proulx. Should you thirst for meditations longer yet, Barbara Demarco-Barrett has on her Writers on Writing radio show interviewed a boatload of authors and it is available as a podcast [iTunes link]

What are the most well-written textbooks?

What are the most well-written (i.e., enjoyable to read) textbooks and/or books written for an academic audience? I'm not looking for the "best" textbook on any given subject, but textbooks on any topic that are compelling to read because of the wit and lucidity of the writing style.
