How do masons communicate?

Masonfilter: If I were pulled over by the police for a minor infraction (35 mph in a 30 zone) and I wanted them to know that I was a member of the masons, how would I do this?

I don't know a lot of amazons, but I'm assuming they wouldn't be wafer-thin.

I'm no toothpick myself, and admire and enjoy the female form in all its sizes, especially ladies with some meat on them. Thus, my idea for collecting art of a bigger-sized WW happened

Extremely minimal workout

My question is pretty simple. Is it possible to get definition and tone using only push-ups and crunches? I cycle everyday for cardio (and practicality), but I'm looking to work my upper body more without investing in a gym membership or weights. Basically I'm looking for a good toning/muscle-building workout using nothing other than my own body. If this is possible, does anyone have some good routines to suggest?

Is there a such thing as an exterior designer?

I like the HGTV show "Curb Appeal" and I'm familiar with most of the actual trades involved with redoing the front of a house, but where do you find a designer to handle it all?

I want to call her...but I don't know how...to use a phone

About a month ago, I began producing a daily one-hour radio show on environmentalism, sustainable living, and the common good. Putting the show every day is a challenge for a variety of reasons, but one of the hardest parts has been trying to find news to report and the experts to make these reports possible. Please help me!

Wishbook Web -- Christmas Catalogs through the 20th Century

Wishbook Web. Christmas catalogs scanned in their entirety from the 1944 Wards Catalog (152 pages) to the 1985 Sears Catalog (648 pages!). The site looks like it was built circa '97, but the scans are quite interesting. via - Similar posts to this one: 1, 2.

PRE tag?

Could we get a <pre> tag or something so that example code posted inline doesn't get stripped (or is there something that already works)? I ask because of this.

Helen Duncan was the last woman to be convicted of witchcraft in Britain. This was in 1944.

Helen Duncan was the last woman to be convicted of witchcraft in Britain. This was in 1944. British authorities "were alarmed by reports that she had disclosed - allegedly via contacts with the spirit world - the sinking of two British battleships long before they became public." Her descendants still smart from the trial and there is a campaign to pardon Mrs Duncan, who some consider a martyred medium who could regurgitate ectoplasm out of her mouth. More than a decade before her trial legendary psychic researcher Harry Price exposed Mrs Duncan as a fraud in his essay The Cheese-Cloth Worshippers. If you want to judge for yourself you can take a look at the photographs Mr Price took of a séance performed by Mrs Duncan.

$49 Helicopter Tour place south of Vegas near the dam.

Anybody know the name of the $49 helicopter place south of the hoover dam on the 93? When you leave Las Vegas going south, there is a hotel and casino off to the left after you pass through the hoover dam. There is a big sign that says $49 helicopter flights. Either that hotel has helicopter tours, or their neighbor is a helicopter place. Anybody know what it's called? (The hotel or the tour place)

Automatically convert pdf links to an HTML viewer?

Feature Idea: adding a PDF viewer? I recently installed a firefox plugin that redirects all PDFs to an inline viewer. For instance, check out this post today and then look at the PDF in docufarm. On windows, I hate waiting for Adobe's PDF plugin to load and on a mac I hate downloading and then opening in a viewer (and having to delete from my desktop later). This seems really simple and easy, and you can download anything you want to keep. Sometimes good posts hinge on a PDF, and this would make that easier to read online. Does it make sense to move PDF links over to docufarm?

Pick Your Own Produce VA/MD/W.VA

A week or so ago, the Washington Post ran their annual "Pick Your Own Produce" list, showing locations in the greater Washington DC area for fresh blackberries, blueberries, strawberries and other produce. I took the time to enter the locations in on Google Maps.

Therapeutic Summer Program for Kids

Okay, so this is my first project post, and if anything, I'm looking for critique. I made a promotional viddy (made, for shame, w/ Windows Movie Maker) for the program I direct for at-risk kids in western NC. I've poured my heart and soul into this, and my hope is that by sending a short video to potential sponsors (as opposed to droll Word docs of the program description) I can raise local interest fast and strike an emotional chord. So, with that in mind, I aim to discern from my fellow Mefites as to whether this is attention grabbing enough for mass distribution to wonderful philanthropists and allied agencies. Your input is appreciated.

Getting the dog high? Why wasn't the whole thing deleted? Letting any comments ride on that one is a slippery slope, I should think. Especially ones condoning it or speaking of giving a dog something toxic.

Read classic punk 'zines, without the inky fingers!

Read classic punk 'zines, without the inky fingers! Too young to have read the first issue of Flipside? Need confirmation that Maximum Rock 'N' Roll was just as boring (does/did anyone actually read those MRR Scene Reports?) and elitist back then as it is now? Do you find it hard to believe that Soul Asylum used to be credible enough to be interviewed by Suburban Voice? Or maybe you just want to marvel/feel-sad-for the obviously painstaking effort someone went through to scan every single page of these 'zines (including HeartattaCk) into PDFs? Well here 'ya go.

From the AskMe thread:

Is Metafilter too labyrinthine, for a new comer at least? I’ve been here for a couple of months now, and I’ve gotten to know a few people, but I still don’t feel as if I’ve become a part of the community yet? Not sure if that’s my fault, may be I should post more often, or comment more in other peoples’ threads, or post better FPPs, but the question’s been on my mind for some time now. It just feels like a tough nut to crack. I am still trying though.

Sleestaks are the new hotness

Sleestaks are the new hotness. Sleestaks are large green humanoids with both reptilian and insectoid features; they have scaly skin with frills around the neck, bulbous unblinking eyes, pincer-like hands, stubby tails, and a single blunt horn on top of the head. There were only three Sleestak costumes available for Land of the Lost, which sometimes required creative editing to create the illusion that they were that numerous. Sleestaks have inspired psychedelic stoner/doom rockers, artwork, artwork and more artwork.

Can someone please explain javascript closures to me in plain english? Closures for Dummies makes me feel like a dummy. What are closures and why would I want to use them? And most importantly, what is a real world example of where they would be really useful. I have no formal CS background, so if you mention CS terms I might get confused.

Suicide Girls TextAds

So yeah, suicide girls. After some teeth gnashing, and asking all my female friends about taking on suicide girls image ads on mefi, I decided to take them (they seem tasteful to me -- I dropped the ones showing too much skin) with the caveat that a simple click and anyone could hide them forever. Here's what I said when I took their first textad long ago and the same applies here. They are as racy as I will go, and this won't start a slippery slope as they're the exception to the rule.
