Luxurify my bath
Looking for ways, big or small, to upgrade my bath experience.
Interesting, yet very safe for work, websites
I'm working at a temp job where I have nothing better to do most of the time than browse the internet. Can y'all give me recommendations for interesting websites? Ideally they'd be things to read, not games so I look sorta professional. I saw the Ask from 2016, which I'll check out, but maybe there's some new sites.
Pneumonia - The Old Person's Friend?
Anything that helped you or a loved one survive after a severe bout of pneumonia?
How to give myself the credit I deserve?
I worked long and hard on a big project at work. Today the final milestone (signature of an agreement) was achieved, and this was 90% down to me, even though I am fairly junior. I have waited for and worked towards this day for about 9 months, but instead of being over the moon I feel like crap, because my superiors did not recognise my achievement beyond the bare minimum of acknowledgement.
Set Me Up For Failure!
Seeking help generating a list of ideas for things to try that I am most likely going to be terrible at, but with hilarious results. Explanation inside.
My job of 20 years has been eliminated. Now what?
Due to budget cuts, my job of 20 has been eliminated. Your best tricks and hacks on getting a new one.
Will I survive a switch from Adobe to Affinity?
My company just announced we are dumping Adobe (for which we all had licenses for their complete suite of products) to Affinity (with licenses for the basic InDesign Illustrator/Photoshop equivalents).
Aside from losing all the fun, free ability to play with all those other Adobe apps, I am concerned about a) transitioning learning curve (I have accreted Photoshop and related Adobe knowledge in a haphazard way since Photoshop entered the Windows world), b) using plugins, macros etc I have accumulated and c) working with our many clients and consultants who are firmly rooted in the Adobe world.
Should I be concerned?
How do you know whether you're having a nervous breakdown?
There have been a lot of stressors in my life for years now, but I have been Handling Them. Last week I hit some kind of wall and I feel like I can't do the things I have to do anymore. Is this what people mean by a nervous breakdown? What do I do about it? More inside.
Choose two: good, cheap, or fast.
How do I become a faster graphic designer?
How does one 40+ yrs transition from web design into something adjacent?
I've designed websites for 20 years — but I think I'm starting to stink at it. And I'm surrounded by people much younger who are definitely better. How do I transition into something adjecent to tech products and design where I'm not necessarily pushing pixels all day?
Calling all non horn-tooters - how to get the most out of a 1:1
I have a one-on-one meeting with my manager every two weeks. It’s an open-ended discussion meant for me to bring up anything I need help with, but it’s also the only time I have to share what I’ve accomplished (he’s a high-level people manager without any insight into my day-to-day work). I am not great at tooting my own horn, but I want to be sure to advocate for myself. What are ways to communicate accomplishments in a conversational way, that doesn’t sound like bragging?
time tracking
Freelancers, consultants and others who bill by the hour, how do you track time?
Tips for all-day interview
The good news is I got called back for a second interview. The scary-to-me news is it will last ALL DAY. Can you give me advice on this type of interview? It's for an administrative position in a large organization and I will be meeting with various groups having somewhat competing interests. I also need advice on negotiating the salary if they offer it to me. If you can give me examples of specific things to say, that would be super. Ugh, god, the anxiety.
Steps to find a job
It's been a while since my last job hunt, and I'd like to be as productive as I can with the next 30 days before I'm officially let go. I've got some theories about next steps below, but would love to have some advice from others who have navigated this recently.
Friends around life
How do I make friends at different stages of (their) life? I would like to get to know people in my community that are young, old, little families, everyone.
Audio workouts for the pool?
I am soon to move into a new building with a really nice indoor swimming pool that I would like to use for personal aquafit style workouts. I'd like to get a waterproof media player and use it when I work out, but I need the content to play. Does anyone know of a source for audio cues for Aquafit routines?
Looking for a less competitive industry
I've been looking for a design job at a publisher for almost a year, and I've had a lot of interviews, but no offers. I know that publishing is extremely competitive, and I'm wondering if I might have more luck in another industry.
How to make writing a hobby when you have nothing to say?
I'm not sure what to write about.
How do you cook for your family?
I know this may count as a google-able question, but I cannot read another family blog that begins with a story of giving their dog a bath or the crazy thing that happened to them at the supermarket. I need to figure out how best to do dinner for my family with some complications. Please help!
I never learned how to relax. How do I start?

Tricks/hacks to divide housework more fairly as a couple?
While things are more equal in relationships than ever before, there's still a pretty well documented imbalance in housework and emotional labor among cishet couples. Looking for concrete examples from ALL types of couples about how you divide housework to feel fair. Bonus points for tricks that especially helped after having kids.
How do you make a choice when one spouse will end up unhappy no matter what?
I want to quit my job, sell our house, and move our family to a house that has been in my family for several generations. My husband cannot get on-board with this idea.
How did you know your parents loved each other?
If you, as a kid (or even now as an adult), felt that your parents loved each other, were happy to be married, etc: what behaviors, rituals, ways of speaking etc that you observed between them made you feel that way?
Mistakes were made.
We have successfully parented our ten-year-old into a kid who cannot fall asleep on her own.
Looking for your experiences and ideas. We know this will not go into the Parenting Hall of Fame.
Use an old iPhone as an iPod?
I still have my previous phone, a Verizon iPhone 6s Plus with 64gb of memory. It works fine. It does not have a cell plan anymore. What's the easiest way to use it as basically an iPod?
As good as Photoshop, and for keeps?
What is the best alternative to Adobe Photoshop/Elements out there these days, that I can buy and just have? "Best", meaning: most features, easiest to learn (i.e. most similar to Photoshop), most intuitive interface. Need not be free, prefer a download to a browser app. I have Elements, want something beefier and non-Adobe. Thanks!
lend me all your obscure/ridiculous dinner party themes
My partner and I have recently discovered that we love hosting dinner parties together. I like to cook and they like to entertain.
Communities of personal bloggers in 2019, is that a thing
I want to find an active community of personal blogs. I want it to be writing-based, non-commerce-oriented, have privacy protections, and be in a format which encourages conversation and relationship between people. Basically I want Livejournal from 2006. Instagram and Tumblr are not wordy or conversational enough. Twitter is too impersonal. Facebook is too terrible. Is there a place that I am missing? (Plus related question: where are the random standout personal writers on IG, FB and so forth?)
All sticks and no carrots--please get me to job hunt!
Please help me force myself to do job hunting, even though I don't want the jobs I somewhat qualify for and can't seem to transfer my skills into anything else either.
Wireless speaker system for dumb home
I'd like to buy some wireless speakers that I can use with an old-school receiver. Does this exist?
Resources for designing information-dense yet attractive presentations
I'm spending an increasing amount of time authoring presentations on information-dense presentations. Most of the templates that accommodate a lot of text have the aesthetic appeal of Khrushchyovka-style Soviet apartment buildings and the templates that have visual appeal are designed for the Steve Jobs style presentations where little of the message was on the screen in text format. Any suggestions on books/web sites/other resources that provide guidance on how to create modern but effective presentations when you need page after page of text?
Things to think about
As soon as I start going to sleep (or waking up) my brain starts planning and ruminating on work stuff. I would like to give my brain something else to play with. I have plenty of external distractions but would like to gather suggestions of visualizations, thoughts etc that are basically mental fidget spinners.
Redemption/makeover shows/resources like Queer Eye?
I'm watching Queer Eye for the Straight guy and enjoying the positivity , the genuine kindness, and the uplifting and comfortingly predictable narrative arc.
Can you recommend some shows like this?
Does tired of London mean tired of life?
I came to London ten years ago and it’s time to move on but I'm scared. Did you leave a big city that you once loved? How did it work out?
The Perfect Planner
I'm currently using an Erin Condren Life Planner, but I'm looking for a more streamlined planner without all the "fluff," but want to stay away from a super "corporate" feel.
How do I efficiently turn a Word doc into an eBook and a print book?
If I'm starting from a Word doc, how can I maintain one document and minimize the amount of work to turn that document into both an eBook and a Print book?

Free stock images of people?
Looking for an organized collection of stock images of people -- for free? This is for non-commercial use. There are a gazillion supposedly-free stock sites but as far as I can tell they exist to funnel traffic to paid stock sites. Any hidden gems?
How can I help my wife be happier?
Everyday (or at least it seems that way) my wife is unhappy. It is rare that we can have a conversation that isn’t about how unhappy she is; it seems to permeate everything we do.
How to do a self-evaluation?
My workplace insists on making self-evaluation part of the performance review process. I hate hate hate this. Help me either (a) see the actual value in it so I can come around to the idea of doing it or (b) fake my way through it.

Change to New Secondary Email
I've have a Yahoo account which I use as a secondary email for online shopping, random news sites like certain politicians or quiz games. It's basically non-personal stuff and no messaging.
Career question: should I stay or should I go?

Why am I so irritable?
Extreme irritability. What are some potential and possible logical or medical reasons for this?
Side gigs
I am looking for a side gig. I have a seen a lot of advice that a side gig should be something you really like doing. This has led me to create several small crafts, do some thrift shopping, take some random serveys, and not decide on a side gig. Please suggest side gigs where I can actually make some money.
How can I put on a pleasant face at work?
I feel like I'm developing a reputation for crabbiness at work. I'd like to change that. Thing is, I'm genuinely pretty crabby because I feel like I'm not being supported or used efficiently. Given that there's nothing I can do about that, how can I at least stop letting it show?
How do I recover from burnout enough to find the next thing?
I am more burned out than I have ever been. My organization is transforming in a way that will only make this worse. I am so burned out that I don't feel like I'm good at anything and I can't remember enjoying anything. I need to move on; however I don't want to jump into another role that is going to lead to the same end point. We've just been told no vacations will be approved until March. How do I get myself the space to recover enough from burnout to figure out where I should move to next? This post, like a Tardis, is bigger on the inside and full of special snowflakes.
Burnout: should I stay or should I go?
Very bad burnout at work, and annual review is coming up. Boss always asks what I need, but I don't think my responses will change anything and I should secretly just find a new job. Is that the burnout talking? Or should I actually tell my boss what I need?
