Ask MeFi post: Anal sex, not so great actually...
You are over-reacting. More specifically, you are NOT over-reacting, but you are not over-reacting to the wrong thing, which is going to screw your judgement.
If I may grossly exaggerate, you are being the MeFi woman who feels that her husband is trying to kill her because the swinging boom knocked her overboard. The physical experience is identical to the experience of someone trying to kill her at sea, and she reacts to that... [more]

Ask MeFi post: Someone I love is being hurt, can I do anything?
ALL TWO YEAR OLDS TALK UNLESS THEY HAVE A DEVELOPMENTAL PROBLEM

Oh come on. Speech development can vary widely in kids. Being behind the curve doesn't mean there's a problem - that's why it's a curve. Sure, suggest to your brother to have him checked if you like, but watch out for the hysterics around here. Yeesh.

OP, maybe you can describe a bit more about the discipline being dished out: "a flick of the finger... [more]

Ask MeFi post: What happens on a date?
I would suggest reading the pickup stuff, but be careful because there are a lot of misogynistic undertones (and overtones) to all of it. A lot of the guys there are there because they are bitter towards women. However, there are people in those forums and sites that are genuinely interested in helping other people and aren't out to objectify or mistreat women.

Those sites can be a excellent source of information about confidence, dealing with rejection, and becoming a... [more]

I would recommend the pick-up-artist stuff. In fact, I'd recommend that you read everything that you can. How intellectually legit is it when people tell you NOT to educate yourself? You don't have to like Machiavelli, but if you are a professional statesman, you have to read him. if you find techniques that you consider unethical or uncomfortable, don't use it. (Although I'd ask yourself if the technique makes you uncomfortable because its a bad idea, or... [more]

MetaTalk post: Slapping someone in the face a bit too much ...
If I could favorite the comments 100 times of hmsbeagle and schroedinger that say it's not fucking respectful of women to be hitting on women you don't know in the street all the time, I would. Right the fuck on.

Ask MeFi post: Now I Know How Simone Warne Must Have Felt.
You know, there are several new things that have been said since last I posted in this thread, but frankly, I've given up.

I promised myself I would never get into an argument on the net and of late I have found myself doing that a little more often. But the fact is, despite the projections of the haters in this thread, I know that I am not controlling, and I don't need to defend myself and prove that to a bunch of internet strangers. Thanks to the help of a few kind... [more]

your fiancee goes out to a bar and gets drunk... and the next day she gets a DIRECTED, cock-pic MMS on her phone out of the blue?

do you guys get pictures of cocks on your phone all the time, because I sure don't.

what are the odds of this... 1 in 10,012031,141342?

Original poster here. After reading through this entire thread, I have to say I’m a little shocked. I mean, I know Ask Metafilter doesn’t do relationship-filter very well but this kind of took the cake. It’s my fault that I didn’t explain things a little better in my original question. It’s my fault that in writing this AskMe I succumbed to a bit of comical hyperbole which allowed many here to read more into the situation than what was going on. But it’s also the fault of many (but not all) in... [more]
