Today, the balance of nature was restored in the Sambura wildlife reserve when a 15 day old oryx calf that had been 'adopted' by a lioness was fatally eaten by a less forward thinking member of the Panthera leo community. Here's a prior story with a photo.

I find it funny that after getting all angry at the death of her adopted oryx, she sat down and ate half of it.

great link, although fatally eaten makes me think of the antithetical and horrific image of enduring peristalsis and surviving.

Laz-e-boy, I think you have misread the second article. It was the lion that ate the carcass. The lioness hasn't been seen since.

Maybe the lioness went vegan, which is why she was expelled from her pride and needed the company of the oryx.

(hee hee)

Very odd.. it's not like the calf was motherless - the lioness actually chased the mother off. It'd be interesting if they were able to follow the lioness and see if she does it again.
