Pledge to be a part of the 2000 GLBT voter turnout. Straight, gay, bi...all signatures are welcome. Remember that for evil to triumph all that is necessary is for good men to do nothing.

And take to heart the words of Martin Niemoeller: "In Germany they came first for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up."

No, I'm not waiting for them to come for me, but then, as a married hetrosexual WITHOUT children, I think I'm farther up on the hit list than a lot of people realize...

What I find terrifying is the fact that 33% of all LGBT people voted REPUBLICAN in the 1998 congressional (house of representatives) election. So I'm afraid that many of those LGBT people who are voting, are voting for the wrong people.

Personally, I don't understand how you can be gay and vote Republican and still live with yourself...

I'm not exactly sure what the Niemoeller quote has to with anything. They're going to go after the gays, then the lesbians, then the bis, and then the breeders? Are they even going after anyone? Or is this an attempt to start the conversation out with Nazi references, thus ensuring that there will be no actual content?

Gratuitous self-reference: it was a scoring post for the Pointless Accusations of Evil Game.

What I think is important is that gay people are being treated--legally--as different than us normal folk. That's just not right, no matter how you look at it. I'm an atheist, surely something as offensive to the holy sanctity of marriage as a gay union. Why can I get married, but gay people can't? Maybe someday they will level the playing field the other way, and I can't get married any more. I don't trust the motives of those who speak of the "sanctity of marriage," because invariably they are not speaking of me.

I'm not trolling, greyscale. It honestly bothers me. Matt, you have my permission to delete my post if you agree that's a troll.

I don't think anyone here disagrees that equal rights for everyone is a good thing, and I think most people here are in agreement regarding legalizing "gay" marriage. I was just picking at the specific rhetoric of the opening post.

Speaking of which, to quote an old friend and teacher who happens to be gay: "What do you mean 'normal'. *We're* the normal ones."

Well, I meant to put "normal" in quotes. . . .I hope the intent was clear. The "scoring post" in the Game was Veruca's, and I hope the humorous intent of that is clear. Not a troll, darnit. Grrr....

Enough apologetics. I am sorely tempted to move to California, just to help deal with their bad new law. But I can see some stuff coming up on the horizon here in Oregon that's just as bad.
