I love them pink spoons.
The little one's especially. They've replaced the McDonald's coffee-stirrer as the poor man's coke-spoon of choice.

Hey, just go through the line, get some ice cream, and eat it on your way back through the line for a second (third, fourth) helping. Of course, Baskin Robins gives free tastes every day, so if they're being a bit stingy on free-scoop day you can make up for it later.

Is there a high mortality rate of Baskin-Robbins franchises in other areas? Fremont / Milpitas / San Jose, Calif. has lost several. The only one I know of in the area (without checking a phone book) is in Sunnyvale, and that one might be gone too.
I've heard the franchises are expensive and/or low margin, but haven't seen numbers.
P.S. B&R is involved with Togos and Dunkin Donuts, leading to one weird URL:

In my youth I worked at a B&R and I still love the stuff. By the way, the 2.5oz is supposed to be the regulation small scoop size. No one really follows that unless the manager is around.
I pass three B&R's on the drive home. Mmm.

This promotion is ripped off from Ben & Jerry's "Free Cone Day," which has been done annually since 1979, versus B&R's venerable tradition "now in its 3rd year."

Will I drive 10.7 miles for 2.5 ounces (or 5, or 7.5, till they catch me and throw me out on my ear) of free ice cream? Not bloody likely.
The money I'll save on gas will allow me to buy a popsicle at the gas station across the street.

last year we took the youth group kids down to the nearest baskin robbins on free scoop day. by the time we got there, around 7pm, the store owner had locked the door and was scowling angrily through the glass at the disappointed kids and angry mothers (there were other folks there too) loitering outside.
we gave up and drove back, having lost faith in BR.
the leaders though, after youth group, ventured to the next-nearest baskin robbins for a free scoop. we were delighted to find the franchise owner's wife tending the line (that went out the door), chatting and taking flavor choices. the owner himself was behind the counter scooping ice cream. we related the events from earlier in the evening to him while getting our ice cream, and he came out from behind the counter, sat down with us, and talked with us for quite some time about his store, the neighboring store, and life in general.
that was a nice night after all, and i'm sure i'll have a nice time at that store tonite, when i head on over. hooray for ice cream!
