Speaking of Britney...

My daughter Sarah and I were at the mall yesterday, and she saw a billboard ad for Britney's skates [flash]. My daughter decided that Britney looked like a "scary cheese monster*" and was "icky". Sarah is 8, which I would guess is the lower end of Britney-fan age. Is Britney losing her appeal? (quite possibly it's only that Sarah has better musical taste).

Solution to the possible Britney Backlash. For the sake of the nation, Britney must take this brave new path.

mmmm, cheese.

...but really, she just doesn't make my heart thump, at least when she is dancing/talking/singing/moving. Stills aren't so bad.

ajbattrick: In UK political / Tory party terms it's pretty big news for the end of July.

Forget the backlash - I'll always be loyal to Boards of Canada, even if Marcus and Michael's looks have faded, and my taste in fashion has moved on away from anoraks and winter hats. I heart boc 4evah!

Hmmm, that looks more like her ring finger than her middle finger to me.

I thought that too, but then why the apology when plausible deniability is an option?

Britney has been slated so much lately. To the media, it seems as if Britney has 'run her course' and it's either time for her to make a massive change, or just fade away.

I fail to see why. Her latest album, 'Britney' is by far her best even though she has barely done any promo for it.

I think Queen Britney is just getting tired. She's been on the intense media rollercoaster for four years now, and the strain is starting to show. Many artists, like the Beatles, turned to drugs or religion at this stage in their career, but that would be against her wholesome image.. so instead, she's just fizzling out.

Billie Piper was Britain's version of Britney Spears, and she appeared about 1-2 years before Britney, and had a bunch of hits. Since 1999 though, she has been on a long vacation with her millionaire husband, but it was today revealed that she's going to 'come back'. With Britney fading out, this might be Billie's time to shine.

Perhaps Britney should do the same. She should get out into the wide world for a few years and quit being hounded by the media. You never know, she might come back as a more mature talent. It's happened before.

My response has been linked to already. Britster and I are drawing up battle plans. This is a temporary blip. Stay calm.

why would you assume that if someone was giving the finger, that they would be intending it to the entire nation that the person giving the finger is currently in?

Stifford: why would you assume that if someone was giving the finger, that they would be intending it to the entire nation that the person giving the finger is currently in?

A bit of hyperbole on my part, though now there's this.

From the article above:
All in all, it's a rough life for a 20-year-old diva-in-training, and Spears told reporters last week that she's looking forward to shutting things down for a bit.

"I think I am just going to take six months off and just have Britney time and just do what Britney wants to do."

So, Bob Dole gets sexually excited by the Britster and she responds by picking up his speech patterns?
