Meanwhile in the world of sports, two idiots attacked a Royals coach during a game tonight. At least it wasn't on Fan Appreciation night. Still, what a dark night for Comiskey.

I'm so glad there wasn't a strike. God bless our national pastime.

My first thought is why would anyone want to take out the first-base coach, of all people?

My second thought was that the attacker in the picture seems to have a nice tail.

On Sept. 28, 1995, Cubs reliever Randy Myers was charged by a 27-year-old bond trader who ran out of the stands at Wrigley Field.
Myers saw the man coming, dropped his glove and knocked him down with his forearm. The two were rolling on the ground near the pitcher's mound, and Myers had the man pinned when several Chicago players broke up the fight.

Only 23 more Great Sports Moments like these and the MLB will be able to put out it's own videotape.

Okay, seems ESPN changed the picture, so now the version of the attacker with a tail is gone. Before anyone asks.

Damn! Once again the Bush administration has concealed the truth about the Baseball Fans With Tails from Area 51!

I, for one, welcome our new tailed bond-trading overlords.

My first thought on this is WHY ARE THE SOX FIRST BASEMAN AND THE UMPIRE STANDING THERE WATCHING LIKE FUCKING FOOLS!?!?! Just ridiculous. The Royals had to swarm from the dugout to protect another human being. Those two should be ashamed of their lack of action. Inconstheivable.

WHAT.
THE.
FUCK.
CHICAGO?

OK, I have officially worn this out.

McBain, to me they just looked shocked and disbelieving.

But indeed, that was very ugly. I fear a day may come when baseball stadiums resemble football grounds in Argentina, with chicken wire and razor wire separating the fans from the players.

Awful.

NBC5 identifies the idiots. For those not from Illinois the father is from Alsip and his son lives in Blue Island.

Alsip? Blue Island? That explains everything. As a north-sider, this is the deep south as far as I'm concerned. Freakin' idiots.

Idiots is right. Seems like Comiskey is often the scene of a near-riot. Makes me glad to be a Cubs fan. Ahhh Chicago . . .

They're Sox fans, what do you expect? : )

RobbieFal, as a newcomer perhaps you didn't know that some folks here have spun off SportsFilter.

Other than the "WTF?" value of this story, what is there to talk about?

Cut and paste that into any number of the current front page posts.

briank: If you think a post sucks, then by all means call it out (though preferably in MetaTalk, which is probably where this comment should have gone as well), but the fact that someone created SportsFilter does not mean that sports-related posts are off-limits for MetaFilter.

WGN news showed clips from the father's apartment building. Apparently, he's been harassing his neighbors ever since he moved in, in addition to having a string of arrests for domestic battery and theft. And nowe his 15 year old son seems to be following in his old man's footsteps. Just another example of where the gene pool needs some more chlorine.

We're not all like this on the South Side, folks. Honest! Though I'm sure between this & that guy who got beat to death for making a messed up U-turn the South Side Tourism Bureau is having a hard time...

And now: A Horrible Reenactment.

It's good to see that a father and son can still go to the ballpark and bond while enjoying our national pastime.
