It's Jerry Lewis's weekend; we just live in it. Nothing says holiday fun like a 21.5-hour parade of handicapped children!

Good Lord, not again!!! Nothing against people with MD but I'de pay money not to have this thing on television. Somehow, no matter where I go I always catch at least a piece of this nightmare, usually when Tony Orlando starts to cry.

They've gradually reduced the treacle factor. Amazingly (or not so, perhaps), the biggest objectors were MD patients and families. The "victim" iconography used to be de rigeur for this kind of event, which had the unfortunate effect of perpetuating a class of unneeded stereotypes.

By giving money, you are paying for that show to stop.

I'd always wondered why it was called "Labor Day", when Americans had a holiday. Now I know where the labour comes in.

I just saw Jerry Lewis on the "The Actor's Studio" with James Lipton. As much as I always hated the telethon, it's amazing to note that it's been airing for 50 years and raised more than a billion dollars in research money, so much money, in fact, that they've been able to extend the life span of your average muscular dystrophy patient to well beyond the age of 21. Fifty years ago, it was considered miraculous for an MD suffer to reach that age. Jerry Lewis believes that by the time he dies, they will have gene therapy that will cure the disease for good.

That said, I'm reminded of a joke we used to tell in junior high.

"Say, isn't your dad's name Jerry?"

"Why, no, it isn't. Why?"

"I could have sworn you were one of Jerry's kids."

So, what exactly *is* "my Global Media Player", and why would I want to register it?

When *are* people going to learn: you can't register people *before* they want something, they'll just leave.
