Phil Agre thinks there was nothing spontaneous about that mob scene in Miami a couple days back.

I can imagine this being cited, should Gore wish to contest the count in Miami-Dade. Whether the Democrat hierarchy shares his desire to do so, I wonder. But you have to wonder about the Elian factor here on top of everything else. Not pleasant, especially if the Cuban-Americans start demanding "favours" from a Bush administration later.

... Upstairs in the Clark center, several people were trampled,
punched or kicked when protesters tried to rush the doors outside
the office of the Miami-Dade supervisor of elections. ...

Now that is a mob.

Hate to admit it, but the F-word took me a couple seconds to figure out. Everyone else get it?

Actually, I still don't get the f-word reference, that was kind of poorly-written, what is it? The only thing I can think is Fear?

Fascism.

rcade, you poor benighted liberal. Don't you know that only socialist lefties are capable of fascism?

Wait a minnit. I just read the next day's report. Until now, I'd only heard that Bob Dole (for example) had been an apologist for this mob action on the morning news. Now it's clear that ELECTED CONGRESSMEN (who seem to have as clear a grasp of the tripartite system of government as Dubya) actually organized and incited this thing. Until now I'd believed it was likely a Freeper kind of thing.

This is unacceptable. Yet the Gigot column indicates that Republicans are just as happy using mob action and intimidation as a part of the electoral process as they are with the idea that counting all the votes is somehow an abhorrently undemocratic process.

We're down the rabbit-hole, kids.

I don't quite understand that one, dhartung. Do you mean fascism is a left wing phenomenon, or that lefties use the word too often to describe anyone to their right?

My guess is that dhartung is implying that lefties, righties, and in-betweenies are all capable of fascist behavior. And despite being an armchair liberal, I would have to agree.

Thanks, mecran, for seeing through my cynical sarcasm.

Fascism is the opposite of libertarianism, and they're both on an axis perpindicular to the liberal-conservative junk. At least if you believe SpeakOut's political continuum.
