There must be a joke here I'm not getting. Or is the link broken?

My snowflakes are little boxes that contain the numbers 27 and 44.

Another attack from the heathens at google in the war on christmas. Easter eggs right before christmas! FOR SHAME!

@orrnyereg: It might be browser dependent. A previous similar "easter egg" being: "Do a Barrel Roll!" Unfortunately you can't get both to kick in simutaneously...

@orrnyereg: You may have to hit the refresh button as well.

For those that it doesn't seem to work for, try this handy link. I think search-as-you-type makes it fail.

Yeah I tried this yesterday on a different computer and got to enjoy the falling Missing Characters boxes!

If you look at an LCD monitor from just the right angle, it actually looks like it's frickin' frosted over. Amazing!

For the curious, it's implemented with a canvas overlaid on top of the whole page. The Javascript is snowyfog.9.js, which is sadly minified. Here's a Gist of it indented.

Another good one: go to the main search page, and type in:

do a barrel roll

I have the search-as-you-type feature activated and it worked for me. Cute Christmas-egg. Maybe that's a Christmas-eggnog?

Uh, what? I don' t see anything. Is it because I'm trapped in the prehistoric world of IE7?

If you're like me, you probably have scripts, flash, and everything else disabled. But the link that Old'n'Busted posted above works.

I'm just glad it's snowing somewhere, because it's been a pretty balmy "winter" up here.

Yes. It doesn't work in IE.

Another one: search for 'askew'.

Snowing on my screen.

Auto-suggested "askew barrel roll" which, since it made me feel less lonely in the world, made me feel a little less disappointed that it didn't do what I hoped it would.

("tilt" works as well -- and I really wish I'd discovered organically doing a search for the Brooke Shields pinball movie, not just because it would have been neat but because I wish I had cause to search for that movie for some reason.)

As for the snow, this is one of those things that's probably a lot cuter when you don't have to deal with the real thing. (I like it but after it drifted up, I started to think about how glad I was that it was mild today and how we can't bank on that for the next 3 months.)

After that long thread on the 10,000-character font the other day, I'm surprised noone has pointed out how to turn the snowflakes into emo-cats!

I was ready to be all down on this because, after the amazing Lem doodle the other day, snowing seems trivial. Then my iPad started frosting up and I could actually wipe the frost away with my finger. Nicely done, google, nicely done.
