What is a Wilbury, and how does it Travel? These questions will not be answered in The True History Of The Traveling Wilburys [25m]. But the story of a few friends getting together to jam a bit is still worth checking out.

Ancillary Material: Play That Rock 'n' Roll [19m] answers the question of what happened to Vol. 2, and why did they never tour.

Just your periodically updated reminder that when their first album was released, the Wilburys, that famously old fogey band, ranged in age from old coot Roy Orbison, 52, to baby Wilbury Tom Petty, 37.

Currently 52: Jack Black, Ice Cube, Queen Latifah. Currently 37: Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne.

I would love to see Jack, Ice, Queen, Katy, and Avril team up for a project!

Such an accidental origin story. Good thing Petty kept forgetting to remind people to take their guitars home.

But who will get the tontine? My bet's on Dylan. Lynne and Orbison had partially transparent shades, Dylan's are solid black.

Hah! And who among us in the late ‘80s would’ve picked Dylan for the tontine?

I mean, I was in early grade school, so everyone looked old, but still.

This was a nice reminder of how great a supergroup can be. Thanks for posting it.

And it's good thing Lynne suggested a name change. "Trembling Wilburys" would have drawn attention from the PMRC.

I also never knew the Pythons were involved, nor that Orbison was a fan and committed entire sketches to memory.

Did this have any influence on why The Highwaymen got started? It just felt like that. I had just moved to this country and it felt like a change was in the air. This supergroup phenomenon, combined with the Grunge basically kicking out pretty much all the Pop music of the time (especially Hair Metal) out of the way etc.

Plus, watching the video of End of the Line always makes me sad and nostalgic.
