Hold back against the darkness Jon Solomon does the thing again. His 35th anniversary Christmas marathon is live on WPRB, going through 6 pm EST tomorrow. If you like off-of-center Christmas music, or are just looking for something to do in the next 20 odd hours, Jon Solomon is here for you.

I love this kind of Holiday Music. Retail killed my taste for anything traditional.

Thanks, mollweide!

The first ten minutes sounded like someone had contact-miked up a very large present and then unwrapped it. It was fab, and I was a bit disappointed when the indie music kicked back in, as lovely as it is.

This also spurred me to find WPRB on Radio Garden, which I’d meant to do in forever (it’s in Princeton, NJ).

Similarly, and of similar tenure: https://xpn.org/program/the-night-before/ is 29 hours of not-the-same-ol-same-ol for Christmas Eve.

WXPN and WPRB are practically neighbors. It must be something in the air in the lower Delaware Valley.

OMG you guys you have no idea how much stuff he does. I think there was an inflection point about 8-10 years ago from "how can he fill 24 hours?" to "how can he possibly fit everything in?" Ramones O'Clock! (12:34 AM and PM), Misfit's O'Clock! (1:38 PM at least). This morning I woke up to a Black Sabbath set consisting of Paranoid and Sweet Leaf with Christmasy Lyrics, and a version of Iron Man with the original lyrics sung as a joyously messianic Christmas carol.

Sometime in the early to mid afternoon there should be a supercut of John Peel saying "The Fall."

Twitter was where we gathered for Snaildartha.

Oh, also: Maura Johnston's contribution a couple years back, "Icy Stump," was my intro to Wet Leg.

"I went up North and I got a big tree.
I got a big tree."

whuppy, Jon only did one Ramones O'Clock this year (12:34 AM, natch). He mentioned that he's got to start balancing traditions with new songs. Apparently, he's got a lot of new music, and is worried traditions are keeping him from playing as much of it as he wants. It's a good problem to have!
