Craptinued

I wish Elvis had lived long enough to record La Vida Loca... but since he did not, I have to content myself with "Kingtinued", a CD of modern, largely A.E.D. (After Elvis' Death) tunes recorded in the style of the large one. Only the highest quality material was selected for the CD, to be sure.

It wasn't really necessary for someone else to sing "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" in the style of Elvis. Freddy Mercury already did it close enough to the style of Elvis (and a lot better than whoever did this version).

Still, I wish they'd put up a sample of "Heart of Rock and Roll." That would have been ... neat.

Jump, Jive and Wail pre-dates Elvis's recording career and I believe You Light Up My Life was recorded during his lifetime--well, just barely. I like the concept of the CD but, really, the E would never sing You Light Up My Life, not for a ten gallon bucket of percodans.

A version of "Watching the Detectives" would've been cool.

7% of Americans (+/-3%) think it is possible that Elvis is still alive (cbs poll).

As would Take A Walk On The Wild Side.

I happen to do a great Bullwinkle impression, if I may say so myself, and my favorite party piece is what I call Bullwinkle's Tribute to Elvis...

Auralize, if you will, Bullwinkle as Elvis impersonator:

Bless-uh mah soul,
Whut's-uh wrong with me,
Ahm itchin' lahk a man
On a fuzzy tree

Can't Get Enough, Ready for Love or Rock Steady, all from the Bad Company songbook - not to mention the song Bad Company, too.

"You Light Up My Life" is about as Elvis-ish a song as is "My Way," and, hell, even Sid Vicious did a cover of that one.

Now, a song I can't imagine Elvis covering: "I've Got a Loverly Bunch of Coconuts."

I once nearly died as a result of my wife strangling me after performing a dual imitation of Elvis and the Cure's Robert Smith duetting on the Kenny Loggins/Stevie Nicks smash Hit "Whenever I Call You Friend." Consider this a warning to all those who may also attempt it. It is nothing more than a vehicle for suicide.

After you hear this album, you'll never doubt again that Elvis will sing just about anything.

I'd love to hear "Buffalo Soldier." Since Bob almost sounds as if he's channeling Elvis with "whoa-o-whoa" stuff on there, it would be a natural. And Elvis never did reggae, to my knowledge. Then there's the whole racial irony thing.

Reggae? Elvis? Sure sounds like Dread Zeppelin to me!
