China warns against US hegemony. "Jiang Zemin has called for a new world order to counter the dominance of the United States." Geopolitics route around nations that don't play nice.

the enemy of my enemy becomes my enemy's friend. Merely a countervailing force. This will justify the missle shield expenditure or will indicate what came from the talk about such a shield.

Sigh. It's a shame that the US and Japan will be going to war against China and Russia for apparently no reason at all. Unfortunately, when history of that war is finished writing itself, I get the feeling that we will be on the losing end, and the perfect portrait of the overzealous aggressors that we had fought so hard against in WWs I and II.

So, since Bush I was responsible for the original New World Order (of which we are presumably a major part), does this mean Jiang is actually creating a New New World Order?

Progress is so freakin' impossible in this world. Why get excited about the good, momentous occasions? The fall of the Soviet Empire signalling a brighter future for Earthly inhabitants? I think not. Things were so much better when Carl Sagan was alive. Causes were demarcated. Solutions were breathtaking. Earth with humans aboard always seemed to have a future in his books.
