The 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup kicks off in 30 days. Predict the winner at The Telegraph.
Despite the predictor URL's blatant favoritism towards current Euro champs the Lionesses, at time of posting the leader in the readership predictions there was reigning world champions the United States, followed by England and then Germany. Professional oddsmakers have Spain as the third likeliest winner after the USA and England.

Whenever I read match reports on UK elite women's football in the Guardian, one of the most depressing things I notice is that they have to pre-moderate EVERY comments section to keep the trolls out.
Think about taunts between men's UK football fans translated to a comment section. If you imagine this comments section NOT needing pre-moderation (they nuke like 1/10 comments in real time because of nastiness) - how much worse it must be boggles the mind.

We have tickets to the final in Sydney! They were surprisingly reasonable. I'm personally hoping for a USA vs Spain match but we'll see.

One of my kids is in Australia right now and will be in NZ as well during the tournament - already has tickets for two matches!
I'm American, and I stan this team 4eva, but... it's better for the game if the winner isn't a foregone conclusion. I think the US will have a tough time achieving the threepeat this year.
Also: MAKE ENOUGH JERSEYS THIS TIME, FOOLS. I thought y'all were capitalists. Don't you want my money?

So it looks like the answer to the question "If there are two host countries, which team plays in the first match?" is "Both of them" (which means by definition both Australia and New Zealand are in Group A). But how do they decide which country hosts that match?
(It's in Auckland, fwiw.)
The Randomlet is excite. They are very much Team USA here, but one of their better friends, who also happens to be a U10 teammate, has a Spanish father and American mother, and they are looking forward to grilling him about who he's rooting for (once he gets back from visiting family in, natch, Spain).

Going to the send-off US-Wales match in San Jose, CA on July 9. Wish I could go down under, but this is at least something. Go Team USA!

New Zealand is in Group A and Australia is in Group B. NZ plays Norway to start the tournament and three hours later Australia plays Ireland. Each team is playing their group stage matches within their own countries.

England got so much better between WWC 2019 and the Euros though. If they maintain form in the face of a few key injuries then they have serious potential.

With the caveat that I’m biased towards France (I lived there as a kid) I have a sneaking suspicion this might be their year. They had their customary meltdown well ahead of the tournament, and the new coach is an expert motivator and really good at navigating tournament football. Also, unlike most years, they don’t have intense pressure on them to win, which should liberate them. That said, they are missing the absolutely world class forward Marie-Antoinette Katoto through injury, but they have other players who can provide goals, and if the defense clicks they won’t need many to win matches.

One of the very few team sports outside of ice hockey in which Canada has a chance in international competition (the team currently being ranked seventh). This might also be our greatest-ever player's final bow on the world stage.
(Not that she's said anything, but at age 40, you have to figure)

New Zealand and Australia have co-hosted World Cups before (in cricket), and in those cases NZ played the first game at home, and the final was scheduled for Australia. Which seems like a reasonable compromise.
I've got tickets for all the games in Wellington, including getting a re-sale ticket for USA-Netherlands, which was previously sold out. My friend has family members coming from the USA for the game, I've got workmates coming down from Auckland to support the Netherlands, it should be great!
If anyone happens to be coming to Wellington for any of the games, do feel free to get in touch :)
(Also it is blowing my mind that we'll almost certainly see the biggest crowd ever at a football match in NZ, in the semi-final in Auckland) for a game that won't even involve a New Zealand team!).

If it follows prior Women’s World Cups, the US will sell it out its group stage. So it’ll match the Portugal v USA group stage game on 27 July and the USA v Vietnam game on 22 July. All three games should be great though.

FWIW one of the hardest group matches to get tickets to is likely to be Aus–Ireland. Will it be the best football in the tournament? Probably not. Will it absolutely have Bondi going off with sunburned backpackers getting loose? Most definitely

Jeez, I'm jealous you all managed to get tickets! I missed out, I thought it was a difficult and obscure process.
But, I'm used to getting tickets to A-league domestic football which is trivial as frankly they're usually playing in half empty stadiums.

FIFA and FIFPro (global trade union for professional footballers) have provided a social media toolkit to the participating teams ahead of the world cup. This was also provided to teams ahead of the Qatar world cup event last year, and is designed to reduce visibility of abusive posts to the players:
FIFPro also released a report highlighting the unevenness of conditions teams face in qualifying for the world cup - in qualifying event pathways, pitch conditions, and compensation - and calling on the confederations to create standalone qualifying events.
