I majored in Piracy Studies. Of course, my degree isn't worth the paper it's printed on now that Napster's shut down.

Until there is a legitimate country that will put the kidnappers in jail after they have released the crews of the ships, how can this possibly not continue? Go puttering out on the ocean, wait for a ship that does not have an escort, beeg payday! What's the worst that can happen? Get locked in an american ships brig and have three square meals a day for the first time in your life.

I thought you were trolling.

Then I read the links and realized that this is about actual pirates. Oops.

"I've never said that we would eliminate it. Piracy will run on. It's been there for centuries." - Rear-Admiral Peter Hudson.

That's the interesting part to me. That, outside of the scary newscast, piracy is normal and to be expected. And that fighting piracy is a dreary job much like any other.

What's the worst that can happen?

Delta Force snipers blow your head off?

I'm broad-minded enough that the answer to 'what's the worst that can happen?' is usually some kind of horrible death.

Delta Force SEAL snipers blow your head off?

Fixed that for ya.

I majored in jauntyology at Pirate U. My thesis was on the correlation between preference for hornpipes over jigs, and the likelihood of choosing a parrot or monkey as ship's mascot.

I just watched all three "Pirates of the Caribean" movies back to back the other day. Somebody call that "Star Wars reviewer who thinks hooker torture is funny" guy and get him on that shit.

Okay, I totally call bullshit on that. How could you watch all three back to back the other day, when each movie is nine hours long?

"Sharing News and Scientific Analysis"
So do they address how they will help protect those waters, so that the fishing rights belong to the nation that is there... rather than far off fishers.

Also, is the coastal region going to be protected from dumping... a lot of people there feel that no one is willing to help them, so they formed a coastal defense group... which slipped into piracy.

They do... and they dismiss it... even while accepting that it is happening... I don't think this is scientific.

“Although the Monitoring Group does not deny the legitimacy of these arguments — and has indeed cited them in its reports of November 2003 and December 2008 — investigations over the course of the mandate leave no doubt that they are at best of secondary, and in some cases of peripheral, importance in understanding and curbing the piracy phenomenon” (p. 36).
What is peripheral to someone outside looking in... can often times be very different from the reasoning in the hearts of those involved. Maybe instead of turning ourselved into the bad guys from the movies mentioned above, coldly and efficiently hunting down the 'paiiirates' (as they acknowledge, this will not work and will lead to war; aka, the 'short term fix')... we could instead, or also, lend a hand to assuring that coastal waters will be, and are protected.
