Teaching their little ones how to walk down the stairs. The difference between the canine and feline are glaring different.

This is a framing problem:
Maybe the momma cat wasn't teaching her kitten how to walk down the stairs, she was teaching her how to jump.

I doubt those cats were parent/kitten. They probably say that to make it funnier.

Dogs don't have a choice but to be with us. They were literally bred to love us. We made them as much as possible in our own image. Cats, on the other hand, are self-interested, half-feral jerks, but they choose to be with us anyway. That's what makes cats awesome.

That looks like a pretty big kitten.
Also, I didn't think the dog was being particularly helpful, and thus I was expecting to see the cat gently lower her kittens from step to step.

That was basically how my dad taught me to ride a bike. He didn't actually push the bike to the ground, but he did assure me he'd hold onto it and run alongside as I attempted my first ride, and then ran two steps as I pedaled and promptly let go and wandered off into the house.

I wish our cat had been taught by somebody how to retract his claws. I swear he doesn't know how, or care.
Apparently his mother abandoned him after his birth and he was raised by humans. If you think regular cats are jerks you should meet our Rico.

As I remember, early domestication of cats (12,000 years ago, maybe) was cats eating rodents/birds eating our grains (or something like that - my memory is fuzzy). So they've become domesticated in the evolutionary recent past. Dogs, OTOH, were domesticated 30,000+ years ago. Again, a fairly short time, but long enough to make humans a part of a dog pack.
Playing evolutionary behavioral psychologist, then:
Dog: DOG LOVES ALPHA! AlPHA LOVE DOG? YAY! DOG GET FOOD! YAY! DOG GET TUMMY RUBS! YAY! DOG IS IN PRESENCE OF ALPHA! YAY!
Cat: You have food, yes? Excellent, Smithers! You may now rub my ears while I sing and fall asleep on you.

Yeah - we've been rewarding (with shelter) the most succesful hunters among cats and (with scraps) the best bootlickers readers of our intentions among dogs.

That cat knew perfectly well how to go down the ladder already. The other cat is just clearly one of those cats who swipes everything off of tables and other horizontal surfaces.

None of my cats are table cleaners and I refuse to even consider the idea that this might change. It's ok if they push each other down the stairs though.
