1x.com is a complete time sink.
Its a curated photographic community, with a global membership.
There is a magazine with an archive, also a blog and Free Tutorials and Photo Critique and awards past and present. But mostly it is just Photos.

All the images Ive seen so far have been absolutely amazing! Its a pity that I cant seem to find any reference to a public API, and they've gone out of their way to make it difficult to download the images, as it would be fun to setup a script to automatically pull these down and set them as my desktop background.

Many of the photographers are aiming to SELL these photos--the end results of much work--whether as prints through this site or as digital files elsewhere. So no, you aren't going to be able to download them for free.

Not to be nit-picky, but every time your browser displays an image, its downloading the image for free. If they had an API to allow me to venmo an artist $1 at random and get an image I would do that as well, the underlying issue is the same: no public documentation for their programmatic interface. The interface exists, they just dont say how members of the public can work with it.

edit: looks like all their "buy" options are all for prints, so no way to buy the digital version I can find. Im a big proponent of paying artists for their work and would gladly pay for digital versions.

Literally the first category in their print shop is called "THE FEMALE FORM /Browse through incredible photography of women."

From their FAQ:
>Unauthorized use of images is something we take very seriously. We have taken many different measures to protect your images. First of all we have prevented right-click downloading or dragging of images to the desktop

This is not a serious protection measure. It just makes the page less usable (I lose access to all my right click shortcuts) and gives artists a false sense of security.)

I was wondering about the 404 comment and just checkd out the FPP on my android. All the links are diverting to gamma.1x.com and many seem borked or asking you to sign up which is a great pity because there are some fine photos here.
If you are on a PC go ahead and enjoy. I have contacted their support to point this out.
