Marching Band For Geese. Beethoven For Elephants. Mariachi For A Beluga Whale (previously). Heavy Metal For Parrots. Jazz For Horses.
Oh, the mariachi band and the beluga always make me so happy.

That parrot does the best piss-take of "Bodies" I've ever heard. I wonder how octopi or cuttlefish would react to music. I've never seen any of these... thanks!

Circus Polka (For a Young Elephant and a Ballerina).
From YouTube comment on another version:
True story about Stravinsky and this piece... this is the actual conversation over the phone that Starvinsky and Balanchine had:
-Balanchine: "I wonder if you'd like to do a little ballet with me."
-Stravinsky: "For whom?"
-Balanchine: "For some elephants."
-Stravinsky: "How old?"
-Balanchine: "Very young."
-Stravinsky: "All right. If they are very young elephants, I will do it..."

The horse is one of the very well trained crowd control mounted police horses. The band is The Baby Boyz, playing on Bourbon Street at the corner of Canal, along the Foot Locker side wall, their usual stage. This is from last summer after the push by Quarter dwellers tried to ban street musicians after 8pm. There was such an outcry about this ridiculous idea that the Mayor and City Council set more music-friendly guidelines and the policeman on his horse was mending fences with the community (and I hope) as well as sweetening the pot for the Boyz that night.
These kids really do get started in middle school, practicing and working very hard in the school music programs to stand out enough to start their own little groups and begin playing this way, hoping to catch on and get more work as they grow up. A musician can actually make a living, although sometimes a very meagre one, in New Orleans. It's a bit like sports, here, also. A player really could grow up to be another Trombone Shorty.
