Photoshop Battle Saga

Boozer vs. monk: the epic. Graphic Forums' Battle Grid is a showcase of "Photoshop tennis"-style showdowns wherein the first player presents an image, and the second player posts a response that incorporates at least some portion of the previous image... and so on. This particular battle began began July 26, 2003 and the latest entry was mid-December, 2004; presumably the battle will continue. This post from September shows a thumbnail synopsis of the action after 26 rounds. A nice (though time-consuming!) thread to follow if you are a fan of collaborative improvisation.

very fun--thanks! (of course it might have worked better if they each had more differing styles and interests)

This is excellent. Monk tends to make relatively small changes, whereas in a lot of Boozer's pictures I can't find any remnant of the previous image.

I hate all the Iron Maiden slogans they splash up over the pictures though. (DEATH. AWAITS. YOUR. VINDICATION.)

Yeah Boozer took some cheap opt outs in a couple of them but it had the benefit of recentering what was quickly becoming a mechanized goth cyber punk cliche....

very interesting concept though, would love to see it done with realistic images as opposed to their work (would have showcased more skill). I have long been predicting photoshop as an emerging art nouveau, just hope it moves towards rococo and not Alice in Chains.

I think that's supposed to be an homage to Steven R. Gilmore's cover artwork for Nettwerk Records.

Cool, taz. I guess this makes me a "fan of collaborative improvisation". Who knew?

I would agree that Boozer tends to resort to a new image too often. But I was also bugged my Monk's repeated y-axis symmetry. (Of course, I say this as someone who has less Photoshop skill than either of these guys has in their little lasso tool.)
