What to do after you realize your dot com is never going to make money Apparently once you run out of other people's money one option is to stop spending extravagant amounts of money.

That's some pretty, um, interesting tablework you got there, Althea. What is it?

Althea is gone now.

What was that all about, anyway?

Some kid posted 25 nested tables with the borders turned on. His/Her other posts were somewhat disruptive too, so the IP is banned, the comments are all gone, and the account is disabled.

wow, this is interesting. the company i work for uses culturefinder as a source for its arts events feeds -- its service has been fairly, imho, spotty, and i wonder how this move will affect that quality level.

I think it's interesting that after blowing through a whole wad of somebody else's money this guy expects to convert the brand to non-profit, get other "philanthropic organizations" to chip in more cash and continue to draw a salary while getting event organizers to pay to be listed--a service that was previously free. If I were an investor I'd be annoyed.

I find it amusing that Pyra bought their server from VA Linux, but is removing Linux and installing Windows 2000.

kindall: and that is amusing because...?

It's amusing, and felt like a goofy thing to do at the time, but VALinux was the only vendor we could find that could get us a nice machine built to our specs, in our price range, in a matter of days (everyone else had 1-2 week build and delivery times).

I found it amusing because I've read plenty of stories of Linux geeks who buy Intel-ish hardware with Windows already installed, and remove it to put Linux on the box. In fact there was a movement a couple years ago to try to get a refund for the unused copy of Windows. This is just backward and it tickles me. It would make a good ad for Microsoft, actually.
