The other day I realized that the one thing I want more than anything else in the world is to go to a Dan Deacon concert, exchange superegos with a random person in the crowd, and dance like a crazy person. But for now, we must make do with recorded shows as best we can. There are two main components of a good recorded Dan Deacon live show: sound quality and insanity. This 2016 set hits the balance pretty well.

[bonus linkzzzzzzzzzzz!]
It's only an experiment if you do not know the outcome.

"If we're 60% water..."

It's also always fun to go back and re-experience Crystal Cat. which, for the record, is an unstoppable choice for first dance at weddings.

Hey, so, back in 2011 Dan Deacon did a concert in Kitchener/Waterloo (Canada) with the KW Symphony under Edwin Outwater. Yes -- a full symphony orchestra plus Dan and a couple friends. It was pretty wild. Anyway, at the time, I was volunteering as the photographer in residence for the KWS, so I got extensive photographs of the rehearsal as well as the concert. Went out after the concert to a pub and hung out for a while; Dan was really sweet.

Enjoy!

I don't think any Dan Deacon post could quite be complete with out at least pointing folks in the direction of Adult Swim's music video for his song When I was Done Dying, which may be one of his best songs (off what I consider to be one of his best albums), not to mention very well animated by a couple of different crews of animators.

I haven't been to a live show in a very, very long time and would love to see Dan Deacon perform someday.

I saw a video today of H. Jon Benjamin dancing about a bird he saw and it immediately made me think of the joy of a Dan Deacon concert, so this is very timely.

I've only been to one Dan Deacon concert - the closer for XOXO 2016 - and it was immense fun. I had to dash out earlier to catch the last train back to the hotel near PDX, but I remember it so fondly.

I got to quite a few Dan Deacon shows. Amazing stuff. I can't bring myself to dance at a show, and somehow... The one that comes most to mind was a show in the basement of some collective's space in Chicago, where the one toilet was overflowing and dripping into said basement with hours to go before he took the stage. And he rocked that motherfucker in a way I've never really felt before or since.

I really enjoy Dan Deacon and have no idea why I've never managed to get to a show; he was playing in Charm City all the goddamn time for awhile there, and somehow it never happened. Someday we can all semi-responsibly do this again.

Dan Deacon has gotten my shoegazer butt on the dance floor more times than I can remember. (Seriously, like...six or seven live shows?) It takes about 10 minutes every time before I'm a sweaty mess in the pit like everyone else.

YT links are great but damn do I want to see this man play live again.

NO! There will be no dancing, or enjoyment while the twin spectres of pandemic and fascist overthrow hang over our heads (or something).

Stop it!

No!

Hey!

I'm not dancing, YOU'RE dancing!

Surely you've seen his Tiny Desk concert?
