Adicolors of the Rainbow

Black, the final entry in Adidas' Adicolor short film campaign., is seriously messed up, with a fish and a panda playing russian roulette. Also featuring Pink, Red, Blue, White, and Yellow. (via)

That Adicolor site is pretty aggressively annoying. Not only does it resize your browser window, it re-resizes it if you deign to make it smaller.

These are up in a little higher quality on the adicolor sites proper, http://www.r213g037b053.net/. Its also worth noting that these are done by some half-decent directors. I've been waiting for these to finish coming out, the pink one was enthralling.

this is an ad. Not just the movie, I mean this FPP right here.

The best part was where the panda drank Pepsi Blue®.

Gurple and Dipsomaniac, did watching 'Black' actually make you want to buy Adidas products?

'cause it sure didn't influence my purchasing decision one way or another. But I enjoyed it thoroughly.

'cause it sure didn't influence my purchasing decision one way or another. That's what they want you to think!

The guy directing the yellow one rocks.

It did make me want to buy some XXX Whiskey and whatever the Panda was smoking.

I don't care if it's an ad or not... that was really, really cool.

what in hell does this have to do with shoes?

see, shoes would be cheaper if companies didn't waste their "advertising budgets" on weird shit like this.

I'm not saying it ain't cool, cuz it is. But it's got jack to do with shoes.

Brand awareness has nothing to do with the actual product.

Mmm, the worst parts of the Deer Hunter restaged in Man Ray's nursery, painted over with a creepy coating of Sesame Street. Shoes!

That's not how you play russian roulette.

Pliskie, that's almost exactly what I thought. I also agree with gurple.

I like Pandas.

see, shoes would be cheaper if companies didn't waste their "advertising budgets" on weird shit like this. Wishful thinking, actually. The price is based on what the market will bear, not cost-plus-profit. You can get a cheap mp3 player for $20, but 10 Gillette Track II cartridges (not exactly high technology) still cost $10 at the drug store. The markup on fashion items is tremendous. Put some sheet metal and nice upholstery on a $30K pickup truck and it becomes a $50K SUV.

In fact, it's the reverse: because shoe companies need to beef up their image to make people accept $120 shoes that they need to spend cash on funky avant-garde movies.

If hoffman had been reading some kafka and promotional literature for adidas, he would have seen this on his bicycle ride.

Trippy, dark. The music was pretty good. Cool site - I'll check out the other flicks, too. Pink, huh? I've always had a soft spot for pink....

"Wishful thinking, actually. The price is based on what the market will bear, not cost-plus-profit."

I would argue that the cost is based on the percieved value delivered. There are cheaper alternatives where the profit margin is lower but certain customers want the "value" delivered by the high priced Adidas and Nike shoes.

certain customers want the "value" delivered by the high priced Adidas and Nike shoes. Exactly. The extra amount people will pay for the perceived (or real) value of a brand is added, but never (for long) above (or much below) what the market will bear.

What's with all the credits for the pink one? It's like 50% credits.

Weird.

No they wouldn't. There is more then one shoe company in the world, and not all of them produce this kind of thing. You're free to buy shoes from those companies, if you want too.

The pink one (www.r243g197b208.net) is fucking amazing. I don't know whose idea the unlistenably bad rapping on the blue one was, though.

Pink one was on ApolloPony recently and features the music of Greg Weeks (track: made). It is indeed fucking awesome.
