That thing is really creepy looking. It's approaching the uncanny valley from the other side.

Does anyone know why Goldeneye for the N64 called it "DK Mode"?

Donkey Kong mode

Awesome.

I went through his Flickr series and found that while the head did seem cartoonishly large to begin with, it seemed more and more natural the more I looked at it through the series.

Then getting to see his real head underneath it made it appear briefly, freakishly small for his body.

This was one of the enduring mysteries of my childhood. Later I found out that the company that made Goldeneye is responsible for Donkey Kong too, which in light of the fact that DK mode also made your character's arms longer makes sense.

Also, this is my favorite costume ever.

I give this ten minutes before it shows up in a Spike Jonze video.

Also DD44 Dostovei to complete the effect.

Wow. If I had a computer science degree, a couple thousand dollars worth of software, lots of free time and was good at stuff, I so would have made this costume for Halloween. Fun!

This is ten thousand kinds of cool.

well that's the coolest thing I've ever seen. I don't know what big-head mode is. Looking through the rest of his portfolio makes me yearn to play with 3D modeling stuff.

There's 2 thing in this world that literally send a shiver up my spine: grasshoppers*, and those dolls / cartoon characters with big heads.

No way in hell am I favouriting this...

(* Just those big brown bastards, actually. I quite like the little green ones...)

Lou Stuells: big head mode is a common easter egg in video games with human characters, because it looks cool and is easy to implement. If your character heads are already separate objects, it might literally be one line of code.

Papercraft big head mode, however, takes a little more effort!

I want to see someone deliver a press conference while wearing their own giant papercraft head.

Barack Obama would be just about ideal.

Big head mode isn't as common in video games as it used to be. Seems like Acclaim really loved it.

I don't really get it. What is Big Head Mode? I googled it and mostly found stuff on this costume. Screenshots anyone?

What is Big Head Mode?

Pretty much what it says on the tin. Here are some YouTube videos of games in Big Head Mode:

NBA Jam
Mortal Kombat 4
Call of Duty

'What it says on the tin?' Huh?

NoraReed: "Big Head Mode" is a bit that people seem to have like putting into video games, particularly about ten years ago, where, if you did something special, all of a sudden your character's head got very big.
