This is the comicbook Ant that Paul Rudd should be playing in the movies.

I saw Adam and the Ants in concert at some point in the early 80's. For some reason, the memories are foggy. Hazy. Cloudy, even. But I remember having a good time vanquishing evil.

Young Adam Ant?

My pants feel funny.

I saw Adam Ant in concert this year, which led me to download his most recent album, which is a glorious mess and (I am shocked to report) would make my "top ten albums of 2013" list if I made such a thing. I especially like "Shrink" ("your 15 minutes is up..."), "Cool Zombie," and "Marrying the Gunner's Daughter." Your mileage may vary, of course.

The thing that shocked me about the concert was that it was just about the loudest concert I've been to ever. Its like once he realized that Trent Reznor was covering "Physical" that he gave himself permission to embrace his inner punk. He played a ton of stuff from his first (more punk) album but everything was at an ear bleeding level.

Anyhow, hell of a performer, Mr. Ant. Totally changed my view ("fun, lightweight kitsch" to "oh, there's actually something to this guy") of him.

I've come to find that Metzger's blog is one of the best on the internet.

And Kings of the Wild Frontier is a classic.

Sometime in the mid-80s, there was a teen magazine that had a picture of Adam Ant with the caption "Don't you just want to lick his blush off?"

And I, a straight, cisgender white U.S. male, thought to myself: "Yes."

He's that bloody awesome.

This is completely inconsistent with his role in Nomads.

(But then so was Pierce Brosnan's French accent.)

Now I'm really, really wondering who the artist is. Kind of looks like the old british Misty comics to me.

which is a glorious mess

Indeed, reminds me of Pink's debut album. Throw every genre against the wall and see what sticks.

When I met my wife her sister was 15 and totally into Adam Ant. I just sent this to her to find out if she knew this existed.

"Is that why I've always had this strange attraction towards warriors, fighters, noble figures?"
Now I want to see the comic adventures of a young Duran Duran as a group of globe-trotting mystery-solving playboys or Annabella Lwin as a mysterious catburgler.

I want a whole series of pulp serials about OMD, each called "Orchestral Manoeuvres in the D..."

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Deep (a thrilling adventure under the sea!)
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Delta (guest-starring Muddy Waters!)
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Desert
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dunes (sequel to the above)

...and so on.

"Oi, fellas. Roger's uncovered unuvver clue."

"Yeh, look: it's a bleedin' footprint. Likely the killer."

"Let's get this to the inspector so we can make it to our gig tonight on time."

Of course, if they show up to solve a murder mystery in Vienna, they will find that the dashing, trench-coated detectives of Ultravox are already on the case.

My wife is a total Adam Ant fangirl. I'm going to have to show this to her just to watch her squee.

Also, this totally needs a crossover with Buckaroo Banzai.

Oh, the nostalgia.

Also nthing the love for his current album and live concerts. We saw him twice on his 2012-2013 tour. No regrets; he rocked our world both times.

Still mad that mommmmmm wouldn't let me go to his show in 1982.

I went along to an Adam Ant concert this year with friends who had an extra ticket. It was a glorious show in a small basement venue, featuring a good mix of his classic stuff with material from the new album and covers. (Plus, two, count 'em, two, drummers!)

I would have no trouble believing that after he wrapped up the show and the after party, Adam Ant dashed out to thwart some evil.
