I've been following this one for a while now. Labels on everything was one of my absolute favorite things about the old show* and I was so happy to find this account.

*Adam West is the one true Batman. Sorry kids.

INTERGALACTIC RECORDER

What was Batman up to? SETI-type stuff? Or did he discover a 23rd century starship had made two trips to circa 1966 Earth and he was determined to get to the bottom of it.

Which makes me hope there's an Adam West's Batman / Star Trek TOS crossover fan fic somewhere.

I like to think all the signs on all the things were once a tool to teach little Dickie Grayson how to read (I don't imagine he got much of that in the circus), and Alfred just hasn't gotten around to removing them yet.

(It does bother me that a lot of the gadget labels are just stuck on, rather than waterslid or rubbed on or silkscreened or whatever. There's campy and then there's crappy.)

The drinking fountain next to the nuclear reactor controls cracked me up.

We had something very similar, except it was labeled "Primary Sample Sink" and the water was a bit too warm to be refreshing.

I'd like to think the CRIME COMPUTER has an advanced Bat-AI which generates all possible criminal conspiracies to keep Batman prepared. And would explain why Batman always has the gadget he needs on his Batbelt.

The ANTI-CRIME COMPUTER takes input from the CRIME COMPUTER and calculates the correct Bat-countermeasures necessary to stop the theorized crimes.

The Bat-singularity was almost accomplished the day Robin decided to pipe the output from the ANTI-CRIME COMPUTER back into the CRIME COMPUTER.

I really wanted to know this, too, but sadly, this appears to be the answer:
It’s worth it to be able to read background signs in the Batcave, where, alongside the nuclear reactor that powered the Batmobile and the clearly labeled sign for the service elevator (which we can only assume was reserved for Alfred’s use alone), we can finally see clearly the “Lunar Scanning Screen” and “Intergalactic Recorder” that never got used to foil Batman’s colorful — but decidedly earthbound — villains.
Boo!

I wonder if Adam West thought the home release of the series would happen within his lifetime, or if he thought it wouldn't happen until he was dead and Burt Ward was like Adam is now. "Nobody messes with Burt Wa!"
