We're all doomed. You think the spam level is bad now, just wait.

spamcop

in fact, this morning I got a "direct mailing" from the better homes and gardens website (I have no idea where they bought my name and email address) and I reported it as spam through spamcop.

not that they'll get shut down, but it might send a message.

it's ridiculous.

What *I* hate about it is that it will make the "Spam. Kill" reflex harder to inculcate in people.

It's spammed at me; I don't do it. Even if it's something I *want*. This will make that even more difficult to sell...

i have recieved so much spam in the last two days. like, DOUBLE my usual amount. and so much of it is from places that i've bought maybe one thing from.

ugh, it's so bad. but i do take a small consolation in the fact that i use pine for my e-mail; at least i don't have to deal with the constantly looping gifs

Well it's threads like these that make me feel lucky, or something. I have never really received very much spam at all, and it doesn't seem to be getting any worse for me... but if it does I'll wish I hadn't jinxed it with this post...

That's what the secret hotmail account is for. Once a month or so I login, wade through like, 100 or so spam's to find the one or two people that constantly use the email address I gave them 4 years ago.

As long as ISPs don't change existing Acceptable Use Policies, It's going to be tough for ``dot commers'' to find somebody that won't nuke them for spamming.

And they should be easy to block. I don't forsee legitimate companies going so far as to rape open relays and dictionary attack entire domains.

Unless they hire less-than-respectable spammers to do it for them.

I have no idea if I'm making any difference at all but if there's ever a reply mail address on spam I just log in to my hotmail address from work, put a polite notice to the effect that I'm not interested in their wares and attach a 2 gig core dump from a Sun Solaris. I guess it probably doesn't but I always feel much better afterwards.
