With IPod, Who Needs a Turntable? This club in Manhattan lets their patrons play the DJ... but they use iPods for the music. But be forewarned... "Playing of any heavy metal ballads will result in immediate expulsion from the premises."
No no no, it will be a crackdown on unlicensed public performance of the songs.

So long as the club is obeying the law (paying for performance rights, etc.), the RIAA won't complain. That's the way copyright works - you have to infringe upon it before anyone gets mad.
But yeah, man!, those who profit from other peoples' work - those who use music without permission and without compensating the original artist - are fuckin' righteous! Any group that opposes such a business - bands represented by the RIAA (eg: Elliott Smith, ...And They Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, Tom Waits), for instance - are soul-sucking demons!

The RIAA represents the labels, not the artists; they're humans, but they do suck souls. (ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC, and Harry Fox, represent the artists.)

so wait, if the club provides the ipods and they don't want people playing heavy metal ballads, surely there won't be any such songs on the ipods?
