Slime Bowl LVIII

After several years of alternative playoff game broadcasts, the NFL and Nickelodeon are stepping things up with an alternative Super Bowl broadcast on the children's entertainment network.

The telecast will combine graphic overlays as well as the cast of SpongeBob SquarePants, alongside CBS play by play announcers, similar to the playoff broadcasts.

I could... see myself tuning in for some part of this?

I watched a shit ton of SpongeBob back in the day. I have no idea what any new material from that series might be like, but I'm curious enough to see how they incorporate this and work with the characters as I remember them that they will get a tiny bit of Nielsen ratings from me.

We're in the era of full on AI fantasia already. Why don't we just have simulated celebrities of our choice providing individualized Super Bowl commentary? Give me Ambrose Bierce announcing, with Alan Watts providing color commentary. The halftime show can be Simón Bolivar in a Gundam battling a fire-breathing dragon.

The NHL did something similar last year with ESPN and Disney and it was absolutely awesome. here are the highlights. Here’s hoping they do something as fun.

The kid-focused broadcasts are part of the NFL setting the foundation for its future viewers, members of Gen Z and Gen Alpha

I watched one of these, it’s actually a lot of fun. Good broadcast for people who are unfamiliar with the rules.
